"Hirani has briefly spoken to Ranbir about it"
Rajkumar Hirani, the maestro of Indian cinema, is currently knee-deep in his upcoming Shah Rukh Khan extravaganza, Dunki.
With this rib-tickling social comedy geared up for a Christmas weekend release, Hirani is already crafting the blueprint for his next directorial masterpiece.
Brace yourselves, because the genius behind 3 Idiots is now setting his sights on a stirring biopic of Lala Amarnath, “the father of Indian cricket”.
And here’s the tantalizing tidbit: Hirani is pondering over two illustrious actors to spearhead this sports saga.
It has been revealed that Aamir Khan and Ranbir Kapoor are currently leading the charge to don the mantle of Lala Amarnath.
Hirani is keeping his casting options wide open, reserving his final verdict until the script has reached perfection. However, a close source told Pinkvilla:
“Hirani wants to make it either with Aamir or with Ranbir.”
“Like his previous films, this one has also first gone to Aamir, who has liked the script and shown his interest.
“In case Aamir passes it up, the filmmaker will go to Ranbir, who headlined his last blockbuster, Sanju.
“Hirani has briefly spoken to Ranbir about it and will formally approach him after Aamir’s final response.”
As of now, the biopic is in the scripting stage, poised to grace the silver screen in the latter half of 2024.
The casting of Aamir and Ranbir hinges not only on their enthusiasm for the project but also on their tight schedules for other commitments.
Reportedly, Aamir is gearing up to kickstart an as-yet-unannounced venture in January 2024, while Ranbir Kapoor is locked in for Nitesh Tiwari’s monumental Ramayana.
Shedding light on these schedules, a source disclosed:
“Ramayana is a very pre-and post-production-heavy project.
“It will require Ranbir relatively less time to shoot on physical sets, as a significant portion will be filmed using Chroma technology.
“Same for Aamir, as his next film is a medium-budget project that will wrap up within three months.
“As of now, Hirani is sitting with writers on a regular basis, giving final touches to Lala Amarnath’s story, and will decide on the cast only after the release of Dunki.”
The source even hinted at a potential rendezvous with Vicky Kaushal if the Aamir-Ranbir duo doesn’t materialise.
Speaking of Dunki, the film signifies the much-anticipated union of Rajkumar Hirani and the King of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan.
It’s undoubtedly one of the most eagerly awaited Indian cinematic extravaganzas of the year.
