"It’s a twisted, grey character."
Ranbir Kapoor is rumoured to be playing a negative role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next film Love and War.
It was recently announced that Ranbir would reunite with Bhansali after his debut Saawariya (2007).
Love and War will also star Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal and is set to be released during Christmas 2025.
According to Pinkvilla, certain details have been revealed about the film that indicates Ranbir’s antagonism in the film.
The source stated: “Love And War is essentially a love triangle with war in its backdrop.
“Ranbir’s performance in Animal blew SLB’s mind away.
“While Love And War is an action love story on the face of it, the inter-character dynamic holds key importance.
“While Alia and Vicky’s part have their own share of challenges in terms of performances, SLB over the years was looking to find a face for the role that Ranbir is doing at the moment.
“It’s a twisted, grey character and warrants the presence of someone who is not just a great actor but also a superstar.
“It has elements of heroism but deep within lies the psychic undertones.
“It’s a solid subject with strong scope for performance and that’s what has excited both Ranbir and SLB to reunite after 17 long years.”
Since its announcement in recent weeks, the excitement for Love and War has known no bounds.
One fan commented: “My three favourites in one movie. What can be better than this?”
Another enthused: “The most talented actor of this generation coming together with the magician SLB!!!! CAN’T WAIT.”
However, it was also reported that Ranbir Kapoor had laid certain conditions down before Bhansali before agreeing to do Love and War.
This was so Ranbir could avoid what had apparently been an uncomfortable experience during the filming of Saawariya.
These conditions reportedly included fixed working hours and proper discipline on set.
Recollecting the experience on Saawariya, Ranbir Kapoor had previously said:
“Here, he was abusing me, he was hitting me, he was making me clean the floor.”
The Tamasha star has been seen in characters with negative shades before and has carried them with finesse and talent, bringing applause his way.
On the other hand, Bhansali is a filmmaker known for his ability to create enchanting worlds with complex and layered characters.
Love and War therefore promises to be a translucent and gripping film, which all Bollywood fans are rightfully curious about.
On the work front, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s last directorial film was the acclaimed Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022).
Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor was last seen in Animal (2023). He won the 2024 Filmfare Award for ‘Best Actor’ for his performance in the film.
