Did Ranbir Kapoor put conditions before SLB for ‘Love and War’?

Ranbir Kapoor is all set to work once again with Sanjay Leela Bhansali after his debut in Saawariya (2007).

The Tamasha star will be seen in the filmmaker’s new film titled Love and War. 

It will also feature Ranbir’s wife Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal and is scheduled for release during Christmas 2025.

However, it is rumoured that Ranbir put forward strict conditions before Bhansali prior to signing to do the film.

He allegedly demanded fixed working hours and a civil working environment.

The Indian Express reported: “The maker has promised to take the film on floors in November and wrap it by July 2025.

“Ranbir has other commitments from August 2025, so he has requested SLB to wrap up the film on time.

“The other condition is to have fixed working hours.

“During Sawaariya, RK was subject to erratic work timing, and he doesn’t want the episode to repeat again in 2024.

“The last condition is to ensure proper discipline on the set in all departments.”

It was Alia who was apparently instrumental in bringing Ranbir Kapoor and Bhansali together for a meeting to discuss Love and War.

In 2017, during his interview on AIB Roast, Ranbir opened up about working with Bhansali in his first film.

The actor spoke somewhat disarmingly about the experience, but asserted that it grounded him:

“Everything I knew about filmmaking and acting came from him.

“I followed him. I looked up to him.

“It was really dark. He really ground us and gave us a hard time.

“I come from a sheltered background. I’ve never been abused or shouted at.

“Here, he was abusing me, he was hitting me, he was making me clean the floor.

“So, I think that experience really grounded me and taught me a lot.”

Before entering Bollywood as an actor, Ranbir assisted Bhansali in his film Black (2005).

Love and War will be Ranbir’s second film with Alia Bhatt after Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva (2022).

It also marks his third collaboration with Vicky Kaushal after Bombay Velvet (2015) and Sanju (2018).

Ranbir was last seen in Animal (2023). For his performance in the film, Ranbir won the 2024 Filmfare Award for ‘Best Actor.’

As well as Love and War, Ranbir Kapoor is also set to lead the cast of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayan, in which he will play the central role of Ram.
