"We make fun of the assimilation of women"
Jameela Jamil expressed her support for Aimee Lou Wood after the latter slammed a recent Saturday Night Live (SNL) sketch that mocked her appearance.
The sketch, titled ‘The White Potus’, aired on April 12 and featured SNL cast member Sarah Sherman portraying Aimee’s character, Chelsea, from HBO’s The White Lotus.
Sarah’s portrayal saw her wear huge prosthetic teeth while parodying Aimee.
Taking to Instagram, Aimee Lou Wood expressed her dismay, stating:
“Such a shame cuz I had such a great time watching it a couple weeks ago.
“Yes, take the p**s for sure, that’s what the show is about, but there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way.”
In another post, Aimee said: “I am not thin-skinned. I actually love being taken the p**s out of when it’s clever and in good spirits.
“But the joke was about fluoride. I have big gap teeth not bad teeth.
“I don’t mind caricature, I understand that’s what SNL is.
“But the rest of the skit was punching up and I/Chelsea was the only one punched down on… Okay end of.”
Following her comments, SNL reportedly reached out to Aimee with a private apology.
In a subsequent Instagram post, she shared a distorted selfie and wrote: “I’ve had apologies from SNL.”
The SNL sketch sparked backlash on social media, with many criticising it for mocking Aimee’s physical features.
Among those voicing their support was Jameela Jamil, who took to her Instagram Story.
Jameela wrote: “I hate this so much.
“It’s the least interesting or memorable thing about this brilliant actor.”
“Our next Olivia Coleman. Hilarious, deep, vulnerable, and relentlessly loveable.”
“We make fun of the assimilation of women and then mercilessly obsess over anyone with any slightly alternative features from whatever bullsh** AI standard we have allowed, as women, to take hold of this world.”
In a follow-up post, Jameela Jamil added: “I also think she’s so f***ing beautiful and love her face so much and wouldn’t want her to look any different.”

Other celebrities, including Cara Delevingne and Georgia May Jagger, also expressed their support for Aimee Lou Wood while also hitting out at the sketch.
Aimee shared a comment from a fan that read:
“It was a sharp and funny skit until it suddenly took a screeching turn into 1970s misogyny.”
She added: “This sums up my view.”
Previously, Aimee shared more thoughts on the matter, admitting:
“Whilst in honest mode – I did find the SNL thing mean and unfunny.”
