"British people are truly the most evil people in history"

Jameela Jamil caused controversy after describing British people as the “most evil people in history” while reflecting on her role as Tahani Al-Jamil in The Good Place.

The British actress appeared on Yestergays, hosted by Justin Sylvester and Blakely Thornton, to talk about her whirlwind career, Hollywood and beauty standards.

During the conversation, Jameela discussed how she approached playing Tahani.

She praised the show’s writing team, particularly writer Megan Amram, for helping shape Tahani’s personality throughout the series.

Jameela said: “I’m so lucky to have been a part of that show; it was so well written, and Megan Amram as well as one of the lead writers on that show who just wrote the s**t out of Tahani, and so like, together we all crafted her.”

She explained that the character was initially intended to be more approachable but said she felt Tahani’s British identity required a different interpretation.

“But I just had to make her more of a b***h; they wanted her to be very sweet because Americans think British people are so sweet, which is crazy because British people are truly the most evil people in history, like they are 100%.”

Justin Sylvester responded: “Go to a museum guys.”

Likening Britain to Marvel supervillain Thanos, Jamil then claimed:

“Yeah, they owe 43 trillion to India.”

Justin continued by referencing British social behaviour:

“Maybe, go to Chiltern Firehouse and leave there and be like, wait, was that girl mean to me? Like, everyone’s mean.”

Jameela added: “We colonise the world.”

Her comments sparked controversy, with social media users calling her “ungrateful”.

One wrote: “She has been given an incredible life in the UK and she still harbours this level of resentment against her ‘home’ country.”

Another commented: “What disgusting comments. She has been brainwashed like many others.

“Every country on the planet has bad in their history. Britain is such an easy ‘safe’ target.”

Some were baffled by Jameela’s remarks, given that she was born in the UK, while others accused her of spreading misinformation.

Others highlighted her personal life, pointing out her relationship with British singer James Blake.

Sharing a picture of Jameela with her partner, one said:

“You guys are so evil that I’m going to live with you and marry you.”

She also shared her experience of living in the United States, admitting that now “feels like a scarier time” but feels “more emotionally prepped”.

Jameela Jamil added: “Also, Britain is f****d. It doesn’t feel as though I’m going back to some sort of haven.

“Literally a race war is happening right now.”

She went on to claim that “Brexit paved the way for American chaos”.

This prompted further outrage as social media users called her out for her “uneducated” remarks.
