Ishaa Saha to play Detective in ‘BB Bakshi’

Ishaa Saha is stepping into the role of a female detective in the upcoming web series BB Bakshi.

The series is directed by Joydeep Mukherjee and the protagonist is inspired by the legendary detective Byomkesh Bakshi.

BB Bakshi promises to bring a fresh perspective to the cop genre, which has historically been dominated by male detectives in Bengali entertainment.

The character, Binodabala Bakshi – affectionately known as BB Bakshi – has already sparked considerable excitement among fans and industry insiders alike.

Scripted by Paramita Munshi, the series is expected to highlight critical themes such as rural politics and gender disparity.

This makes BB Bakshi not just a detective show but a reflection of societal issues.

Unlike many of her predecessors in the detective genre, the series is set to fill a notable gap in Tollywood’s narrative landscape.

There have been portrayals of female detectives in the past, like Koyel Mallick’s Mitin Masi and Tuhina Das’ Damayanti.

However, BB Bakshi aims to bring a more nuanced and grounded representation.

Binodabala is a police constable from a small rural village, navigating the complexities of her profession while also grappling with traditional expectations.

The series will reportedly begin with her wedding, establishing her dual life as a devoted wife and a dedicated officer.

Ishaa Saha’s portrayal of Binodabala promises to blend empathy with determination, as she embodies a character who is gentle yet resolute.

Her inquisitive nature will drive her to delve into mysteries and seek justice at any cost.

Joydeep Mukherjee expressed confidence in the character’s ability to resonate with viewers.

He believes that BB Bakshi’s unique traits will not only entertain but also provoke thought on pressing social issues.

Filming for BB Bakshi is slated to begin in December 2024, with most scenes expected to be shot in rural locations.

The script is anticipated to be finalised by the end of November.

Ishaa Saha is known for her significant contributions to Bengali cinema. She has made a name for herself since her film debut in 2017 with Projapoti Biskut.

Her career includes notable films such as Karnasubarner Guptodhon, which became one of the highest-grossing Bengali films.

After a busy period of back-to-back releases in 2021 and 2022, Ishaa Saha took a break.

She voiced her desire to avoid overwhelming audiences with too many simultaneous projects.

Isha said: “I did not want so much to release together because I think the attention gets divided and I got bored looking at myself.

“I felt maybe the audience would also be bored. Then I felt it was better to take a gap for some days and take a break.”
