Is Ananya Panday's Call Me Bae a Copy of 2 Broke Girls f

"I won't be surprised if there are scenes copied from these shows."

The trailer for Ananya Panday’s new series Call Me Bae was released and is already generating a lot of buzz, with many viewers noticing similarities to the American sitcom 2 Broke Girls.

Playing Bella “Bae” Chowdhury, Ananya is a privileged South Delhi heiress who loses it all and must start from the bottom in Mumbai.

The trailer begins with Bae narrating her wealthy upbringing and lifestyle.

But fate soon deals her a harsh blow.

With her credit cut off and her family disowning her, Bae is forced to move to Mumbai and confront the realities of middle-class living.

She struggles in Mumbai with her job searches.

From seeking a position as a social media journalist to cleaning her own apartment, she finds it hard to cope with city life.

The trailer ends with a humorous jab at Ananya’s family background, with a security guard saying:

“Your struggle is what our dreams are made of.”

With a mischievous smile, Bae replies:

“Where have I heard that one before?”

The exchange was in reference to Siddhant Chaturvedi’s viral comment on nepotism and struggle.

After watching the trailer, many viewers saw similarities between Call Me Bae and 2 Broke Girls.

2 Broke Girls featured Caroline Wesbox Channing (Beth Behrs), a rich high-society girl who loses her fortune when her father is arrested and imprisoned.

She is forced to start over and becomes a waitress at the Williamsburg Diner.

On social media, viewers gave their thoughts.

Another agreed: “I immediately thought of 2 Broke Girls. Her character is definitely inspired from there.”

A third added:

“It’s like watching 2 Broke Girls, but from Caroline’s perspective.”

Netizens labelled Ananya Panday’s upcoming series the “Desi version” of 2 Broke Girls.

Some highlighted resemblances to other American sitcoms.

A comment read: “Emily in Paris meets 2 Broke Girls meets Schitts Creek!”

One person commented: “It seems a copy of 2 Broke Girls and Schitts Creek.”

Created by Ishita Moitra, Call Me Bae is backed by Dharmatic Entertainment.

Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada, Varun Sood and Vihaan Samat also star in the series.

It is scheduled to release on September 6, 2024, on Amazon Prime Video.
