"the rain would have ruined her makeup."
In Himachal Pradesh, Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi stirred controversy with his comments aimed at Kangana Ranaut.
The drama played out during a recent assembly session where Negi took a jab at Kangana’s visit to flood-affected regions of the state.
Negi’s remarked that Kangana’s visit to the flood-hit areas occurred only after the situation had stabilised.
He implied that her delay was possibly due to concerns over her makeup in the rain.
The minister stated: “Kangana visited the flood-affected areas only after things had calmed down because the rain would have ruined her makeup.
“Without it, people might not be able to tell whether she was Kangana or her mother.”
His quip about her makeup being essential in distinguishing her from her mother added a layer of directness to his critique.
This jab further intensified the controversy surrounding his statements.
In response to the uproar sparked by his comments, Negi clarified that his remarks were intended as a jibe rather than an insult.
He emphasised that he intended to highlight Kangana’s absence during the initial phases of the calamity.
He highlighted that the actress opted for social media posts over on-ground presence during critical times.
Negi said: “People of BJP are known for twisting every statement.
“I didn’t insult Kangana, it was a jibe that she is not visiting the location at the time of such a calamity and is tweeting instead that MLAs and officers are telling her that the weather in Himachal is inclement, there is Red and Orange Alert.
“So, not visiting the location due to Red and Orange Alerts and avoiding one’s responsibility when deaths occur in the Parliamentary constituency, where is her sensitivity?
“So, this was a jibe. I have always respected women, this was not an insult to women…”
The ensuing political fallout saw the BJP’s Himachal unit condemning Negi’s remarks, labelling them as disrespectful to the essence of womanhood.

They questioned the values upheld by the Congress Minister within the hallowed halls of the Assembly.
A post on X read: “Look at the values of the Congress government’s minister Jagat Negi… he is insulting woman-power even inside the Assembly.”
Moreover, netizens also called out the minister for his sexist remark towards the actress.
A user wrote: “This shows the kind of attitude average Indian males hold for females. They can’t stay away from making personal attacks.”
Another said: “Make such remarks about your daughters. A case should be done against him by Kangana Ranaut.”
