"he had killed his girlfriend, Nikki Yadav"
An Indian man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his live-in girlfriend and dumping her body in a refrigerator at his dhaba.
It is reported that he killed her after an argument over his impending marriage to another woman.
After the murder, he went ahead with the wedding later that day.
Sahil Gehlot was arrested after Nikki Yadav’s body was discovered at the dhaba, located on the outskirts of Mitraon Village in Delhi.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Archana Beniwal of Dwarka Court placed Gehlot in police custody for five days to investigate, collect evidence and obtain answers from the accused.
Police took Gehlot to his and Nikki’s flat in Uttam Nagar.
It is reported that Gehlot wanted to marry Nikki but his family were against the relationship and arranged his marriage to another woman.
Nikki found out about his secret engagement and confronted him.
On February 9, 2023, at 5 am, the Indian man suggested that they elope. They planned to go to Goa but were unable to book tickets.
They then decided to go to Himachal Pradesh.
Gehlot and Nikki travelled in his cousin’s car to the Kashmere Gate.
But as they travelled towards the Nigam Bodh Ghat, Gehlot began getting calls from family members.
This led to an argument between the couple. Out of anger, Gehlot strangled his girlfriend to death with a phone cable.
He then drove 40 kilometres to his dhaba while the victim’s body was in the passenger seat.
Gehlot switched off her mobile phone and went through with his wedding. Afterwards, he reportedly switched her phone back on and deleted any incriminating data.
Suspicions began to arise when Nikki’s father unsuccessfully tried to call her.
When he called Gehlot, he claimed that Nikki had gone on a trip.
Police discovered the body after receiving a tip-off.
Special Commissioner of Police Ravindra Singh Yadav said:
“A police team was formed and, on checking, no case or complaint about any missing girl was found reported.
“The team reached Mitraon Village in search of the accused Gehlot, but his mobile phone was found switched off and he was not present in his house.
“An intensive search followed in the village and nearby area.”
Sahil Gehlot was later arrested.
SCP Yadav continued:
“On interrogation, initially, the accused tried to mislead the police.”
“But on sustained interrogation, he disclosed that he had killed his girlfriend, Nikki Yadav, in the intervening night of February 9 and 10 and stuffed her body in a refrigerator at his dhaba in a vacant plot situated on the outskirts of Mitraon.
“Nikki’s body was recovered from the fridge. A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered and the version disclosed by the accused is being verified during investigation.”
Police are currently working to find CCTV cameras near his dhaba.
