“I was stunned by the racism."
An Indian man claimed he and his family faced “third-world” treatment at a luxury resort in Mauritius, alleging racism.
The man, who goes by @Starcommander10 on social media, said the incident happened some time ago but did not specify the exact date.
He said he was prompted to share his experience after watching influencer Sachin Awasthi recount being detained in South Korea and China.
He began: “Watched the video and it gave me chills.
“As an Indian, I have faced many instances of racism but the worst experience was in Mauritius.”
According to the post, he had recently landed a new job and decided to treat his parents to a holiday in Mauritius, booking a five-star property for Rs. 3.5 lakh.
However, he said the stay quickly turned sour.
The family arrived in Mauritius on Easter. At around 1 pm, he called reception to book lunch at the resort restaurant.
He said he was told to wait 15 minutes due to a lack of available tables.
By 1:45pm, no one had called him back.
Assuming staff had forgotten, he and his parents went down to the restaurant in person.
The man continued: “But when we arrived, we noticed there were no tables. We were very hungry and asked a staff member what is happening today?”
The staff member asked whether they were guests at the property before walking inside without answering the question.
The tourist described the interaction as “very weird” but said he did not want it to ruin his holiday.
Around the same time, a European guest informed him that the hotel had organised an Easter lunch and that all guests were invited. He claimed his family had not been told about the event.
He said: “We waited and waited. It was now 2:30 pm. My mom then went to an old housekeeping lady staff and literally begged if we can have lunch somewhere.
“For the first time I felt bad. This is not the experience I wanted. Imagine begging after paying Rs. 3.5L.”
According to his account, the housekeeping staff member “took pity” on them and guided them to the Easter celebration area.
“What we saw shocked us. They had both the tables as well as food. Anyways, we were very hungry, we went to the buffet and ate some rice with butter and French fries.”

He alleged that when he asked for more fries, a chef dismissed the request.
The chef allegedly told him: “French fries are over, there may be some leftover potato wedges, you can have that.”
However, when a “white-skinned boy” asked the chef for more fries, the request was granted.
The man said: “I was stunned by the racism.”
He said he reported the matter to the hotel manager but did not receive an apology. Instead, he claimed the manager told him only that his feedback had been noted.
The man added: “After paying the same amount as the other guests, I felt treated like a third-world guest. Why did I not share this then? I was literally afraid of my safety.”
The man acknowledged Mauritius’ beauty but said the resort “does not like Indians”.
In a follow-up post, he said: “Also, just noticed, this property is no longer part of the Anantara group.”
