"what kind of scam is Adani Electricity conducting in Mumbai?"
Indian actresses Karthika Nair and Shraddha Das criticised their electricity provider after receiving hefty bills for the month of June.
The ongoing Covid-19 crisis in India has meant that electricity provider Adani has increased their prices, causing a shock to customers.
Meter readings were stopped and instead, the bills were based on average meter readings between the months of December and February.
This includes Indian actresses Karthika and Shraddha who publicly expressed their disappointment.
They took to Twitter to slam the provider for charging three times more than their usual bill for the same usage.
Karthika stated that she was charged approximately Rs. 1 Lakh (£1,000) for the month of June.
On June 25, 2020, the actress posted on Twitter: “So what kind of scam is Adani Electricity conducting in Mumbai?
“June electricity bill close to 1 lakh… (based on their ‘estimates’ since they could not do meter reading during lockdown) hearing lots of similar complaints from Mumbaikars.”
After seeing Karthika’s complaint, Adani Electricity advised her to formally register her complaint and promised her that the situation will be resolved soon.

The next day, fellow actress Shraddha Das also lashed out at the electricity provider for sending her such an expensive bill despite the same usage.
She wrote: “The electricity bills are crazyyyyyy now… just paid Rs. 26,000 (£280) plus last night Adani Electricity and my usage is the same… not increased coz of the lockdown.”
Shraddha went on to say that she would be switching her provider due to the high cost, which she claimed had been going on for two weeks.
The actress added: “I think I will switch to Tata Power from Adani Electricity.
“The bills are unimaginably super highly-priced… it’s been on for long.
“And 8k (£85) a week before so 34k (£360) in total Adani Electricity, madness.”

Her frustrations towards the electricity company continued as she claimed that Adani Electricity’s customer services department do not reply to queries.
Shraddha said: “And their customer care keeps you waiting for such a long time saying you are the 3rd caller and 4th caller but disconnects when you reach the end of the waiting time Adani Electricity.
“No response from Adani Electricity even after sending them details on dm and their customer care is a waste and not just me all my friends have the same issue of overpriced bills.”
