"They gave the worst co-star for Ibrahim's debut."

Ibrahim Ali Khan will make his acting debut in Netflix’s romantic drama Nadaaniyan opposite Khushi Kapoor.

However, the film has found itself at the centre of a heated debate online.

Directed by Shauna Gautam and produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Somen Mishra, the film introduces a fresh on-screen pairing of Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor.

However, many internet users are disappointed by the choice to cast Khushi in Ibrahim’s first film because of her acting capabilities or lack thereof.

Touted as a young adult love story, Nadaaniyan follows the romance between Pia, a bold South Delhi girl, and Arjun, a determined boy from Noida.

The film promises to capture the “magic, madness and innocence of first love” and is backed by Dharmatic Entertainment, the digital arm of Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.

The producers of Dharmatic Entertainment said:

“Love has always been at the heart of our storytelling, and with Nadaaniyan, we’re celebrating it in its purest, most youthful form.

“This film introduces a fresh, dynamic pairing with Ibrahim and Khushi, while also marking the exciting debut of Ibrahim.

“It’s a story of connection, chaos and relationships that perfectly capture the essence of young love.

“Netflix, with its unparalleled reach, is the ideal platform to bring this vibrant and young romantic drama to audiences around the world.

“We can’t wait for viewers to relive the magic of first love with Nadaaniyan.”

Netflix India’s Director of Original Films, Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, echoed this enthusiasm:

Nadaaniyan captures the innocence and irreverence of young love.

“From Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment, this film takes audiences on an emotional rollercoaster.

“Starring Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor, this heartwarming tale explores the trials and tribulations of first love, brought to life through the fresh vision of debutante director Shauna Gautam.

“We’re thrilled to expand our roster of romantic comedies and offer viewers a glimpse into the world of young adults— one story at a time.”

But much of the public response has been far less enthusiastic, with most of the criticism directed at Khushi.

One person wondered: “How is she even getting this many projects? She can’t even act.”

Another said: “They gave the worst co-star for Ibrahim’s debut.”

A third added:

“How does she keep getting roles despite having no screen presence and bad reviews?”

The casting also raised questions about Bollywood’s nepotism issue as one referenced Kriti Sanon’s past comments on industry bias:

“Nepotism is real. Kriti Sanon once said that star kids get their second and third movie deals before their first film even releases. Case in point.”

Criticising Khushi’s acting skills, one comment read:

“She can’t act, has no personality and charisma and yet keeps getting big production movies without having proved herself.

“Bollywood nepotism making careers of talentless star kids!”

The controversy surrounding Nadaaniyan is unlikely to die down soon.

With Bollywood’s nepotism debate reigniting yet again, the film’s reception will be closely watched when it premieres on Netflix.
