Police in Mumbai have charged Bollywood choreographer Ganesh Acharya with sexual harassment, stalking and voyeurism.

This is in relation to a case filed by an assistant choreographer in 2020.

Oshiwara police officer Sandeep Shindi said the charge sheet was filed in a Mumbai court.

It has been reported that Ganesh and his assistant were charged under sections 354-a (sexual harassment), 354-c (voyeurism ), 354-d (stalking), 509 (insulting the modesty of any woman), 323 (causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention to commit an offence) of the Indian Penal Code.

The Bollywood choreographer has not commented on the charges.

Ganesh, who has been accused of sexual harassment by some of his co-workers, has denied the allegations in the past and has called them “false and baseless”.

His lawyer Ravi Suryavanshi said they were not informed by the police about the charge sheet.

He said: “I don’t have the charge sheet so I cannot say anything, but all the sections in the FIR were bailable.”

In her complaint, the assistant choreographer said that Ganesh had been harassing her after she rejected his sexual advances.

She had accused him of making lewd comments, showing her porn films and molesting her.

In 2020, the woman said: “I have filed a complaint against him for the incident which happened with me on January 26.

“There is CCTV footage of that incident.

“Today, I came here to request that I want justice and also want to file an FIR against Ganesh Acharya.

“I have ignored him several times but again and again he tried showing me filthy adult videos on his laptop.”

“I warned him that if you will repeat such things again, then I am going to complain to the association and also at the police station.”

The woman also claimed that Ganesh Acharya told her that if she wanted to succeed, she would have to sleep with him.

She refused and she claimed that Ganesh had her membership with the Indian Film and Television Choreographers Association terminated.

When she opposed Acharya’s actions at a meeting in 2020, the choreographer allegedly abused her and his assistants assaulted her.

The woman alleged: “The female assistants beat me up, abused me and defamed me after which I went to the police who refused to lodge a complaint and merely registered a non-cognisable case.

“Then I contacted a lawyer to take the matter further.”
