“This is so unethical. Punish her.”

Firdous Ashiq Awan, a key figure in the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), faces legal trouble after a video surfaced on social media.

The video shows her slapping a uniformed policeman at a polling station during the elections.

It was alleged that Firdous, accompanied by supporters, unlawfully intervened in the polling process.

The complainant claimed that when he confronted her about this, she slapped him and verbally abused him.

Taking note of the occurrence, Sialkot District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Hasan Iqbal instructed Sadar police to take necessary action.

Per the DPO’s directive and the ASI’s complaint, police have filed an FIR against Firdous and 10 unidentified individuals.

The DPO said that everyone is equal before the law, and no one would be allowed to take it into their own hands.

He asserts that strict action would be taken against the suspects according to law.

The video capturing the incident has spread widely across social media platforms, triggering extensive outrage and discussions.

One user said: “If this had been a male slapping a woman, there would be chaos all over.”

Firdous’s conduct has garnered criticism from diverse sources, with numerous calls for accountability and strict actions against her.

One person said: “This is so unethical. Punish her.”

Another wrote: “This isn’t her first time. She has assaulted many people this way various times.”

Firdous Ashiq Awan is known for her short temper. This is not the first time she has exerted physical violence against someone.

She once struck the then-PPP MNA Qadir Khan Mandokhail during a TV talk show in 2021.

This was when she was a special assistant to then Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar during the PTI rule.

One of the commenters stressed: “She committed a crime by slapping a policeman, she deserves a penalty.”

Another remarked: “She thinks no one is above her.”

The incident underscores worry regarding the behaviour of political leaders during elections and their dealings with law enforcement officers.

One X user commented: “She is abusing the woman card.”

Another stated:

“She is just a sore loser. She’s channelling her anger onto others because she didn’t win.”

The comments emphasised the importance of upholding the rule of law and preserving order at polling stations.

It’s unclear how Firdous Ashiq Awan and her party will respond to accusations during the legal proceedings.

It also remains to be seen what the consequences of her actions will be if proven guilty.
