"That’s something I guess I’ll just have to live with."
Farhan Akhtar is one of Bollywood’s most popular actors and filmmakers.
He is the son of the veteran scriptwriters Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani.
However, Javed and Honey divorced in 1985, after the former married Shabana Azmi in 1984.
Farhan married Adhuna Bhabani in 2000. They had two daughters together.
Adhuna and Farhan confirmed their divorce in 2017.
Farhan Akhtar recently opened up about how the divorce of his parents impacted his marriage to Adhuna.
He said: “[My divorce] was difficult. A certain aspect of it was of course that I had been through having divorced parents when I was a kid.
“I know what it felt like and there was a huge part of me that was like I cannot do this to my own kids.
“I felt that it came to a place where if Adhuna and myself spoke to them openly and honestly and explained to them why we were taking this kind of step, that it doesn’t have anything to do with them.
“It’s not because of them, it’s not because of anything they did, they said, or because they are here.
“This is something between two grown-up people, who as friends decided that this is something that they want to do.
“That’s the best we could do, but it’s something that I am going to have to live with for the rest of my life.
“It’s never going to entirely go away. I’m thinking, ‘Did they deserve this?’
“It’s going to keep coming up. That’s something I guess I’ll just have to live with.
“The fact that it had happened to me as a kid played a huge role in how I feel about it now.”
After his divorce from Adhuna, Farhan Akhtar began dating Shibani Dandekar. The couple tied the knot in 2022.
Speaking about his equation with Shabana, Farhan said: “There was a phase when I was angry with [Javed].
“I felt betrayed by him. There were all those very normal emotions that I did go through as a child growing up.
“It took time to go back to normal with my dad. Shabana played a big part in creating that normalcy.”
Javed Akhtar was part of the legendary scriptwriting duo, Salim-Javed which also comprised Salim Khan.
In the 1970s and 1980s, they wrote many classics of Hindi cinema including Deewaar (1975), Sholay (1975), and Shakti (1982).
A documentary called Angry Young Men based on their career recently premiered on Amazon Prime.
Farhan, Honey, and Shabana all appeared in the three-part series.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Farhan Akhtar is currently working on Don 3 starring Ranveer Singh and Kiara Advani.
