"Find her, prosecute her, jail or deport her."
A student from Durham college in Canada, Sahar Shehadeh, came under fire after a video allegedly showed her expressing her support for Hamas.
It is reported that Shehadeh studies in the advanced biotechnology programme at Durham College.
On October 7, 2023, an ongoing war between Hamas and Israel broke out when the former fired several rockets.
This led Israel to retaliate.
The conflict has seen thousands of fatalities and many more people have been displaced.
In the clip, Shehadeh allegedly declared that Hamas were not a terrorist group and that she was “very proud”.
The Durham student supposedly said: “I support Hamas. History was made [October 7].
“Very proud of my people. Very, very proud.”
Referring to the incident on October 7, she added:
“I support every decision, and you know what, what they did was history. Very proud. History was made that day.”
Shehadeh then appeared to raise a teacup and declared: “Shout out to Hamas.”

The clip was understandably met with outrage, particularly on X.
One user said: “Find her, prosecute her, jail or deport her.”
Another added: “Pure evil. The darkest place in hell is reserved for these Hamas terrorists.”
A third commented: “She should move to Gaza and support Hamas from home ground.”
Other viewers noted the contrast between her words and the fact that Shehadeh wore a hijab.
One user said: “The face of evil. She is a bitter woman after being forced to wear the hijab all her life.”
Another sarcastically pointed out: “All of this while wearing a hijab.”
The college has reported the video to Durham Regional Police.
Durham Regional Police Staff Sergeant Andre Wyatt said:
“We are looking into the post and the issues around that.”
According to Durham Region, Sergeant Wyatt said the police would have more to say about the investigation in due course, adding:
“We don’t have a lot to say at this point, but we are aware of it and I’m sure we’ll have more to say about it.”
Although the video has sparked backlash, there are questions arising from the video itself as to whether it is real or has been produced using deepfake technology.
Unnatural movements on the face such as movements with her eyebrows, mouth and dimples not looking consistent, are signs of deepfake videos.
Therefore, this is yet to be determined as to whether it is an authentic video or not. The video has not been verified.
Sahar Shehadeh is yet to speak out about the alleged video.
Many are calling for the Durham student to be suspended from her educational programme.
