"Imagine the horror that her mother experienced"

Gursimran Kaur was the employee who died in a Walmart walk-in oven, only to be found by her own mother.

The 19-year-old was working alongside her mother at the store in Halifax, Canada, on October 19, 2024, when the horrific tragedy occurred.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money for Gursimran and over $60,000 has been raised.

It stated that her mother would regularly check in on her daughter while they worked shifts together.

But when she had not seen her for an extended period, she went looking for Gursimran.

She ended up finding her daughter’s “charred remains” inside the industrial oven when a colleague noticed “leakage” coming from the area.

The GoFundMe page read: “Imagine the horror that her mother experienced who herself opened the oven, when someone pointed out to it!”

Gursimran’s phone was “unreachable”, which is when her mother began panicking, as it was “unusual for her to switch her phone off during the day”.

“Gursimran’s mother tried to locate her after not seeing her for one hour.

“She asked around, but everyone brushed aside thinking that she may be somewhere helping a customer.”

Gursimran was remembered as a “beautiful girl who came to Canada with big dreams”.

She and her mother arrived in Nova Scotia less than three years ago.

Gursimran’s father and brother are still in India and according to the page, “we are trying to get them here as soon as possible. This family’s sufferings are unimaginable and indescribable. They need your support to get through this horrific time”.

Since Gursimran’s death, Harjit Seyan, president of Canada’s Maritime Sikh Society, said his community has been supporting the victim’s traumatised family.

He said: “The immediate family is absolutely shocked.

“They are in a kind of a trauma. We are really sorry to hear of such a tragic event.”

After arriving in Canada, the teenager formed a close bond with the Maritime Sikh Society.

Board member Satnam Singh Randhawa previously said:

“It’s pretty distressing given young people come here with hopes and dreams.

“They’re working hard and this is what happens.”

The oven was industrial and large enough for a person to step inside.

Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding her tragic death.

In a statement, Walmart Canada said they were “heartbroken and our deepest thoughts are with our associate and their family. We extend our sincerest condolences to those who were closest to them”.
