"You proposed her, saying: 'Do you want to have some fun?'"
A British Asian driver has received a jail sentence for attempting to lure schoolgirls for underage sex. Jahirul Miah appeared before a judge at Liverpool Crown Court.
He was sentenced to four years in jail, along with an extended two years on license.
The court heard how he approached two girls and asked them if they wanted to “have some fun”. The father of two, also high on cocaine during the incident, even offered them cash of up to £100.
Afterwards, he propositioned a woman jogging and even a mother, who was with her baby.
The incident took place on the morning of 16th May 2017, after he filled his car, a Renault Megane, with fuel at a service station. He first began speaking with a 14-year-old schoolgirl and asked for directions.
However, he then propositioned her for sex. Judge Watson said during the trial: “Having used that line to stop her and get her attention, you proposed her, saying: ‘Do you want to have some fun?’
“She was terrified. She walked away quickly and then made a panicked phone call, which every mother must dread receiving.”
The 41-year-old next encountered a 13-year-old girl, who waited by a bus stop, outside a school. He approached her in a similar way; this time asking for bus times and saying: “You’re gorgeous, would you like to make some money?”
The schoolgirl, along with a boy, reported the incident to a teacher, who recorded the man’s registration plate. However, Miah drove off and later approached a third girl. While he didn’t ask her for sex, he asked if she would get into the vehicle.
He then approached a woman jogging for sex, as well as offering cocaine to a mother. When police arrested him, they found a packet of condoms in his car.
They also discovered he had a sexual interest in schoolgirls. Miah had done online searches for the terms “teen babes” and “Lolita”.
He initially denied speaking to the teenage girls. During the trial, the 41-year-old claimed he spoke to them, but not about sex. His defence lawyer, Paul Treble also added “mercifully nothing physical took place” in the incident.
The lawyer claimed Miah struggled after his arranged marriage “fell apart”, explaining: “He started drinking too much, socialising with the wrong people and trying to find people to spend time with.”
However, Judge Watson found him guilty on two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. In addition to his jail sentence, he will be on the sex offenders’ register and given an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
He will have to serve at least two-thirds of his sentence. A parole board must also deem his release as safe.
