"My baby has just started her journey"

Boney Kapoor came to his daughter Janhvi’s defence when she was compared to her late mother Sridevi.

Since her Bollywood debut in 2018, Janhvi has faced constant comparisons to her late mother Sridevi, who is regarded as Bollywood’s first female superstar.

She also faces constant criticism, partially due to being a star kid.

Janhvi is gearing up for the release of Mili, which is produced by her father.

At the film’s trailer launch, Boney defended his daughter when she was compared with Sridevi and the criticism she is frequently subjected to.

Boney said: “Everyone has a different mechanism to understand their character and become part of it.

“That was one of the major USPs of Sridevi, and Janhvi also picks up the character or rather gets into the character.

“My baby has just started her journey and one shouldn’t put her in comparison with any of the work of Sridevi.”

Praising Sridevi, Boney added: “She also had a journey which was brilliant, she started as a child star but the North Indians saw her after she did more than 200 films in the South.”

During the trailer launch event, Boney was asked about his reaction to the upcoming film and Janhvi’s performance.

The film producer said: “She’s done phenomenally well in this film and not only this film but she’s grown from film to film.

“I think this film has brought her closer to her peak.

“Not that this would be the end, I’m sure she will outgrow the kind of burden that she carries being Sri’s (Sridevi) daughter.

“She is going to carve her own niche.

“She has begun very well by playing various kinds of characters starting with Dhadak, then Gunjan, then the short film she did.”

Mili is an upcoming survival thriller directed by Mathukutty Xavier.

The film marks Janhvi’s first collaboration with her father.

It is a remake of the 2019 Malayalam movie Helen and it is set to hit theatres on November 4, 2022.

Janhvi Kapoor will also be seen in Bawaal alongside Varun Dhawan. Helmed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film is all set to hit the theatres on April 7, 2023.

She also has Mr and Mrs Mahi alongside Rajkummar Rao in the pipeline.
