"no presence on social media. I don’t even post anything."
Aamir Khan caused a lot of surprise when he announced that he would be quitting social media for good.
The Bollywood star announced his exit on March 15, 2021, a day after his 56th birthday.
Aamir thanked everyone for their wishes before saying that he would be going off the internet to “drop the pretence”.
The actor has now opened up about his reasons for quitting social media.
Aamir was spotted at the screening of Koi Jaane Na in Mumbai and the paparazzi quizzed him about the reason behind his decision.
The actor explained that when he had social media, he was never active on it.
He said: “Nothing like that, please don’t bring your own theories.
“I live in my own world and have no presence on social media. I don’t even post anything.”
Aamir Khan went on to say that he will now be communicating with his fans through the media, like how it was before.
He then joked that the media should be happy with this change.
Aamir continued: “I am not saying goodbye as I am around.
“We used to communicate before social media too.
“And now media will have bigger role to play in helping me communicate with my audience, as I will be reaching out to them through the press.
“I think you guys should be happier now.”
He concluded by saying that he fully trusts the media.
On March 15, while announcing his social media exit, Aamir mentioned that his production company AKF (Aamir Khan Productions) has started its new official social media page.
He stated that it would keep his fans updated about him and his films.
In his final post, Aamir wrote:
“Hey guys, thank you so much for all the love and warmth on my birthday. My heart is full.”
“In other news, this is going to be my last post on social media. Considering that I am SO active anyway I have decided to drop the pretence.
“We will continue to communicate as we did before.
“In addition, AKP has created its official channel! So future updates on me and my films can be found there.
“Here’s the official handle! @akppl_official. Lots of love, always, A.”
Aamir Khan will next be seen in Laal Singh Chaddha, an adaptation of Tom Hanks’ 1994 classic Forrest Gump.
It will also mark Aamir’s second film with Kareena Kapoor Khan. The pair starred together in the 2009 hit 3 Idiots.
The film is set to release on December 24, 2021.
