"another positive step in strengthening cricketing ties"
Pakistan and Bangladesh have officially agreed to a three-match T20I series, scheduled to be played in Lahore.
It was confirmed following discussions between Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chairman Nazmul Abedin and President Faruque Ahmed.
The matches will be hosted at the historic Gaddafi Stadium, with exact dates expected to be announced soon.
There were initial hopes of including Faisalabad as a venue.
However, logistical constraints and ongoing regional instability mean the city will have to wait longer for its cricketing revival.
The agreement marks a crucial moment for cricket diplomacy between the two nations, especially against the backdrop of regional uncertainty.
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) had been suspended on May 9, 2025, following escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
This development disrupted Pakistan’s domestic calendar and raised questions about international fixtures.
Despite these concerns, both boards demonstrated a commitment to maintaining cricketing ties.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi welcomed the BCB’s decision to go ahead with the tour.
In an official statement, he said: “We are grateful to the BCB leadership for their trust and cooperation.
“This series is another positive step in strengthening cricketing ties between our nations.”
Reports suggest the original plan was for a five-match series.
However, concerns from Bangladeshi players, who have cited workload and recent security tensions, led to a scaled-down three-match arrangement.
Still, the fact that the tour is going ahead at all is being seen as a win for both boards.
Several players were previously evacuated to the UAE for safety amid conflict-related threats during the PSL.
This included Bangladeshi spinner Rishad Hossain and pacer Nahid Rana.
Nonetheless, the BCB’s willingness to send its national team under such circumstances reflects the importance both nations place on maintaining cricketing continuity.
Sources within both boards indicate that enhanced security measures will be in place throughout the series.
This series is expected to serve as a morale booster not just for players but also for fans in the region.
Beyond the politics and boardroom negotiations, this T20I series is also an important one for both teams on the field.
With the T20 World Cup coming up, these matches will serve as valuable preparation.
More importantly, they’ll bring the game back to the fans, something everyone can agree is sorely needed.
