Auntie and Uncle arrive to EastEnders with Masood Ahmed

Producers of EastEnders have revealed more details of Nitin Ganatra’s return as Masood Ahmed. He will be joined by two famous faces from UK television.

"They find themselves caught up in the middle of other people’s drama."

Nitin Ganatra will soon make his return as Masood Ahmed to BBC’s EastEnders. Now, producers have revealed who will join him in his return. They are Indira Joshi and Madhav Sharma!

On 15th November 2017, the soap opera unveiled the first look of Nitin with the two actors. They will play the roles of Masood’s auntie and uncle; Mariam and Arshad.

All three will appear on EastEnders for the New Year; as part of new 2018 storylines, they arrive at Albert Square to rent Masood’s house, number 41.

On Facebook, the soap opera gave fans a taste of what they can expect from the new characters. While Joshi is a “no-nonsense yet gentle attitude and kind soul”, Arshad looks set to deliver humour with his “jovial and mischievous ways”.

Arrivals in EastEnders never go quietly; just think back to the Taylors’ crash landing at Walford! While we may not see bust-ups quick so soon, producers did add:

“They find themselves caught up in the middle of other people’s drama.

“However, Mariam soon realises that although Walford may not be the most desirable of locations, there is a real sense of community spirit and one that the Ahmeds want to be part of.”

While producers spoke of the new characters, they kept tight-lipped on Masood’s storylines. We wonder if he could be in store for a possible romance? Or maybe he is still with Zainab, who he left Albert Square for in 2016?

Television fans will likely have seen Indira Joshi and Madhav Sharma before. Indira gained success when she starred in the popular show The Kumars At No 42 as Madhuri Kumar.

Meanwhile, Madhav Sharma previously acted in hospital drama Casualty.

Indira revealed her excitement to star in the soap opera, saying: “I’m over the moon to be joining EastEnders and to be part of the Ahmed family – I’m really looking forward to working with Madhav and Nitin as well as the rest of the cast.”

In addition, Madhav also said: “The first continuing drama I starred in was on the BBC so this is like coming home for me. I’m really looking forward to playing Arshad.”

With just a couple of months left until Nitin’s return with Indira and Madhav, the countdown begins until we see the Ahmed family.

Sarah is an English and Creative Writing graduate who loves video games, books and looking after her mischievous cat Prince. Her motto follows House Lannister's "Hear Me Roar".
