“I am just here to enjoy the boxing."

Amir Khan was booed after he refused to commit to fighting Conor Benn.

Benn fought South African Chris van Heerden in the Manchester Arena on April 16, 2022.

But Benn demolished van Heerden, scoring a second-round TKO to retain his WBA Continental welterweight title.

After his impressive victory, Bolton boxer Amir Khan jumped in the ring to congratulate him.

Khan has been suggested as a possible opponent for Conor Benn, who moved to 21-0.

However, when asked about the possibility of facing the young contender, Khan shied away from the challenge.

Khan, who was last defeated by Kell Brook, said:

“I am just here to enjoy the boxing. I’m a fan. I’m here to support him.

“At the moment to spend time with my family but who knows.

“If I come back then we can see where we go from there.”

Cheers quickly turned to boos in the arena.

Despite the boos in the arena, Twitter users did not mind Khan’s refusal to commit to a fight, with many stating it would be a one-sided victory for Benn.

One said:

“Putting Amir Khan into the ring with Conor Benn would be equal to putting that goat into the enclosure in Jurassic Park.”

“It would basically the closest thing to fixing a fight in betting terms.”

Another said: “How can anyone say they want to see Conor fight Amir?

“Conor needs world level fights not some washed up has been looking for a few extra quid.”

After his big victory, Conor Benn said:

“People thought a southpaw might be a problem but I’ll beat anyone in front of me. I keep silencing critics, I’ll beat southpaws, boxers and punchers.

“I will have Brook or Khan but I don’t think they fancy it. So I will push on for world titles.

“I respect Amir, he was the best of his time. The fight would be idols to rivals.”

Carl Froch also aimed a jibe at Amir Khan, leaving Tony Bellew stunned.

The pair were discussing potential future opponents for Benn when Froch said:

“I like the Kell Brook fight.

“You mentioned the Amir Khan fight but he’s only good for getting knocked out that kid; he needs to retire now.

“Amir Khan needs to turn it in. I’m just being straight, I’m being brutally honest.”

Bellew laughed before putting his microphone to his head in despair and saying:

“You can’t talk about people like that.”

Froch added: “I think he knows he’s retiring. The Kell Brook is a good fight.”
