“Don’t forget your roots, Mr Allu Arjun.”

In a new commercial, Telugu actor Allu Arjun can be seen flexing his acting skills.

He also spoofs South Indian cinema.

The actor, fresh off the success of Pushpa: The Rise, played his Pushpa character in the new video.

The video begins with Allu Arjun battling a group of goons in a mall.

As he throws a punch in slow motion, the villain flies.

As he waits to reach the ground, he requests Allu Arjun to finish the fight fast as he wants to order food.

Allu pokes fun at the high-octane, slow-motion action sequences usually seen in South Indian films by saying:

“It’s South cinema. This is how we do it.”

The villain responds that he is craving Gongura Mutton and that the restaurants will be closed by the time he hits the ground.

Allu then opens the popular food delivery app that the commercial is for and wraps the ad with his famous dialogue from Pushpa.

While performing the signature Pushpa hand gesture, Allu says:

“When your heart desires, don’t just settle.”

While many praised the advertisement, others were offended by the Telugu’s actor apparent mockery of the slow-motion element seen in South Indian cinemas action sequences.

One user wrote: “Don’t forget your roots, Mr Allu Arjun.”

Another added: “It’s insulting the South Cinema.”

A third commented: “I am uninstalling the app on my phone right away. Degrading South Cinema in your recent ad.”

Allu Arjun was most recently seen in Pushpa: The Rise, alongside Rashmika Mandanna and Fahaad Faasil.

The film is based on the red sanders smuggling in the Seshachalam Hills in Andhra Pradesh and Allu plays Pushpa Raj, a coolie-turned-smuggler.

The film has become the most successful Indian film of 2021 and ranks among the highest-grossing Telugu films of all time.

A sequel titled Pushpa: The Rule is also in production.

Producers Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar of Mythri Movie Makers said the second instalment is slated to release in 2022.

In a statement, the producers said:

“The storyline and the characters took on lives of their own and grew to a span that required the movie to be released in two parts.

“The excitement we witnessed for ‘Introduction To Pushpa Raj’ was phenomenal and we are determined to take it all to the next level by releasing the film as a duology.”
