"Deeply heartbroken by the tragic incident"
Allu Arjun was arrested in connection with a stampede at the premiere of Pushpa 2 in Hyderabad.
On December 4, 2024, the actor made an impromptu appearance at the Sandhya Theatre for a screening of Pushpa 2: The Rule.
According to police Allu arrived at the cinema at 9:30 pm without notifying authorities beforehand.
His appearance caused chaos among fans, who rushed to catch a glimpse of the star. Things escalated when security personnel tried to control the crowd.
A woman named Revathi and her nine-year-old son were caught up in the stampede.
Police managed to extract them, however, Revathi died as a result of her injuries. Her son was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
Following the incident, Allu Arjun tweeted: “Deeply heartbroken by the tragic incident at Sandhya Theatre.
“My heartfelt condolences go out to the grieving family during this unimaginably difficult time.
“I want to assure them they are not alone in this pain and will meet the family personally.
“While respecting their need for space to grieve, I stand committed to extend every possible assistance to help them navigate through this challenging journey.”
Investigators found that theatre management did not make additional provisions to manage the crowd. There was also no separate entry or exit for the actor’s team.
A case was registered against Sandhya Theatre’s management, Allu Arjun and his security team.

Allu was taken into custody on December 13, 2024.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Akshansh Yadav said:
“A case has been filed under BNS section 105 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 118(1) r/w 3(5) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt) at Chikkadpally police station based on the complaint of the family members of the deceased person.
“It is being investigated. Stringent action as per law will be taken against all the persons responsible for the chaotic situation inside the theatre leading to the death of a person and injury to others.”
Officials from the Hyderabad Police Commissioner’s Task Force and the Chikkadpally police station arrived at Allu Arjun’s house and took him into custody.
The actor had approached the Telangana High Court seeking to clear his name from the FIR, but it has not come up for hearing so far.
Sandhya Theatre’s owner and two employees have also been arrested.
According to one officer, Allu did not object to the arrest but told police that it was inappropriate of them to walk up to his bedroom.
His father accompanied him to the police station.
After recording his statement at the police station, Arjun is being taken to Gandhi Hospital for a check-up.
He will be presented in court later, and police have prepared a remand report to be presented before the magistrate.
Arjun’s lawyers meanwhile moved a lunch motion petition in the Telangana High Court to ensure he is not arrested until December 16. The petition will be heard at 2:30 pm.
