Now Rajesh Tope, Maharashtra Health Minister, shared the news of Aishwarya and Aaradhya on Twitter. He wrote:
“Smt. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan & Daughter Aaradhya Abhishek Bachchan have also been detected positive for Covid19.”
Tope continued to mention that Jaya Bachchan has tested negative. He said:
“Smt. Jaya Bachchan ji is tested negative for covid19. We wish the Bachchan family to get well soon with a speedy recovery.”
According to BMC, Aishwarya and Aaradhya’s swab samples were taken on Saturday, 11 July 2020 for Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) testing.
Their results came out positive today (Sunday, 12 July 2020).
Despite Jaya Bachchan having tested negative, she will be tested again to overrule any negative reporting.
Suresh Kakani, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation commissioner said:
“Total of 16 people from the family have been tested including guards and maids. Other reports will come tomorrow.
“As Aishwarya and Aaradhya are both asymptomatic, BMC will take a written declaration from them if they want to take treatment at home. Or else, they will also be shifted to the hospital.”
Assistant Municipal Commissioner, Vishwas Mote, K West Ward of BMC said:
“All four bungalows of Bachchan family named Jalsa, Janak, Pratiksha and Vatsa have been sealed and declared as a containment zone.
“We are conducting contact tracing among all staff members and will now 30 have been identified as high-risk contacts.”
Initially, Aishwarya and Aaradhya were tested negative in rapid antigen tests at the hospital before their RT-PCR test results came out positive today.
Antigen tests detect the presence of molecular pathogens of coronavirus in the body. Results are provided within 30 minutes.
However, RT-PCR testing takes approximately eight hours to provide results.
Positive results from antigen-based tests which use nasal swab samples are considered ‘true positive’.
While negative results are considered mandatory for retesting by RT-PCR process.
