“On the contrary, I have produced a film for him"

Actor Abhishek Bachchan has opened up about the ongoing nepotism debate in Bollywood and the criticism he faces.

Abhishek is the son of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan and actress Jaya Bachchan.

This has caused many people to believe that Abhishek Bachchan has taken help from his father to finance and advance his career.

However, Abhishek has now dispelled rumours confirming that Amitabh Bachchan has never financed any of his films.

Trolls on social media often post rude comments about the actor’s career stating it is all courtesy of his father.

Abhishek has responded to these trolls maintaining that he has also faced hardships in the film industry and revealed that he struggles to find good work.

Speaking to IANS in a recent interview, Abhishek Bachchan stated that his father has not produced any of his films.

Instead, Abhishek produced R Balki’s Paa (2009) which featured Amitabh in the lead role and him as a supporting actor. He said:

“The fact is he has never picked up the phone on anyone. He has never made a film for me.

“On the contrary, I have produced a film for him called Paa.”

The film starred Amitabh as a 12-year-old child with a rare genetic disease called progeria.

He is looked after by his single mother played by Vidya Balan while Abhishek Bachchan essays the role of his father who never knew he existed.

A while ago, Abhishek and Amitabh were admitted to hospital with Covid-19. One user took to Twitter to question Abhishek saying:

“Your father admitted in hospital … ab kiske bharose baith ke khaoge?” (Who will feed you now?)

In response to the sarcastic jibe, Abhishek Bachchan tweeted:

“Filhaal toh let ke kha rahe hain dono saath aspatal mein.” (Right now both of us are being well fed at the hospital).

The trolled replied saying: “Get well soon sir … Har kisi ki kismet me let ke khana kaha.” (Not everyone has the good fortune to be well taken care of).

Abhishek replied with: “I pray that you are never in a situation like ours and that you remain safe and healthy. Thank you for your wishes, ma’am.”

Recently, another Twitter user expressed their anger over Abhishek having more followers than actress Prachi Desai. In response, the actor said:

“I assure you Mr Singhal the amount of followers you have on social media is by no means a barometer of acceptance or popularity or talent.

“My friend @ItsPrachiDesai is a very talented actor and doesn’t need social media to endorse that. Her work speaks for itself.”

On the work front, Abhishek Bachchan will appear in Anurag Basu’s anthology film, Ludo.
