"It was a disgusting display of violence."
In a serious incident, two men were arrested and subsequently jailed for a planned revenge attack on another man.
The victim was assaulted in the street on April 29, 2024.
One of the perpetrators, Yasir Alyas, was wearing a face covering and repeatedly struck the victim on the crown of his head with a machete.
Alyas was 29 years old at the time of the crime that occurred in Devon Street, St Ann’s.
The victim was also attacked with a baseball bat and was kicked. He was taken to the hospital and required stitches for the head and leg injuries he sustained.
He also suffered a fractured finger and grazing. Alyas had been driven to the scene of the attack by Idries Hussain, aged 29.
They travelled in a Volkswagen Passat along with others who were armed with weapons.
A Volkswagen Golf also arrived at the scene with more people who continued the attack after the victim was forced onto the floor.
Following police inquiries, Alyas was arrested the next day and pled guilty to violent disorder and possessing a bladed article in public.
Meanwhile, Hussain was arrested after the police stopped a vehicle in Chorley, Lancashire, on May 5, 2024. He also pled guilty to violent disorder.
The authorities accepted that Hussain was not directly involved in the revenge attack.
However, he was considered to have played a key role in the incident by transporting the armed offenders.
Alyas and Hussain appeared for sentencing at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, December 6, 2024.
Discussing the revenge attack, the court heard that there had been some “ill will” between Alyas and the victim.
Prosecutor James Ball described this as “an organised and shocking episode of violence which resulted in serious injuries”.
During sentencing, Judge Mark Watson said: “You attacked him as an act of revenge.
“It was a disgusting display of violence on a residential street.
“It was cowardly, and it’s remarkable the injuries sustained by the victim were not more serious.”
Detective Constable Dionne Love, Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a vicious organised group attack on a man in a quiet residential street.
“Violence of this nature and the use of dangerous weapons will not be tolerated on our streets, and I’m pleased our investigation has now resulted in Alyas and Hussain being put behind bars.”
Yasir Alyas was jailed for three years and two months while Idries Hussain was sentenced to one year and 11 months.
The two men were made subject to ten-year restraining orders not to contact the victim of the revenge attack.
