The 2009 UK Asian Music Awards were held at Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London, on the evening of Thursday 5th March 2009. Buzzing with some of the biggest names in the Asian music and media industries, the eventful night was full of huge cheer for the winners and heart-felt commiserations for the losers.
Hailing the achievements of established and newcomer artists of the growing and popular UK Asian music scene, the awards, known as the UK AMA’s, covered the many genres of UK Asian music including Traditional Bhangra, Urban Desi and Pop. It also recognised achievements in radio and music video, and contributions by international artists and DJ’s.
Hosted by Karen David and VJ Salil, the night included live performances by Channi Singh, Mona Singh, Amar Ft Jim Beanz (USA), Jagged Edge (USA), H Dhami, Rishi Rich, Veronica, Mumzy, Tasha Tah, Juggy D, Shahin Badar, Metz N Trix, DJ Kayper and many more.
With exclusive television rights, the B4U television Network will be beaming the televised recording of the event later this year.

why did Jazzy b win best video for Rambo it was one of the worst videos. Ameet Channa should have won the Best Radio show.

No awards for Dj H & Dj Rags….There album was baaaaaaaad and plus they had good high-budget video’s..Surprised they never scooped best album n video..

My thoughts on this are that Tigerstyle should’ve won for their album as best producers. They are way better in making good bhangra tunes than the others. I think the awards were more biased to London peeps and no real recognition for the hard work by others not in london.

Good question Anup…i will give you an example. u lose your job (touch wood you don’t) and no monthly income is coming in. Jazzy B has released a new album and it sounds sick, you desperatly want it but you havn’t got the funds to buy it. that well affect him because you are not alone. its not just affecting us …its worldwide. album sales will drop and so will downloading. i hope this makes sense.
Tony how many people you think, especially Asians, are paying for their downloads? This is a problem that is hitting the Asian music industry hard despite the economic problem. Album sales are down due to people downloading free. I read this on here about this problem getting bigger. Or am I wrong?
