"When my son’s turn came, it happened."
Zarina Wahab is a veteran Bollywood actress who is the mother of Sooraj Pancholi.
On June 3, 2013, the industry was shaken when the actress Jiah Khan took her life at the age of 25.
At the time of her death, Jiah was dating Sooraj.
In her six-page suicide note, she alleged that Sooraj was abusive towards her.
This kicked off a legal case against Sooraj, which spanned the next 10 years.
In April 2023, the CBI Special Court acquitted him of all charges due to a lack of evidence.
In an interview, Zarina Wahab stated that Jiah had attempted suicide many times before even meeting her son.
She said: “Even before that, she had tried four to five times.
“But it was destiny that when my son’s turn came, it happened.
“We all went through a bad time, but I believe in one thing. If you spoil anybody’s life with lies, take it as a loan.
“It will come to you with interest. Karma says that. We all waited.
“It took 10 years, but he is out of it, and I am happy. It has affected Sooraj’s career.
“Everyone knows what she used to do, I don’t want to open my mouth.
“I do not want to come down to that level.”
Zarina added that Sooraj has resumed his career and has currently almost finished shooting a new film.
The actress continued: “He is such a lovely child. I can’t tell you.
“Maybe that was his test. We went through hell. There is no point in going back into it now.”
Jiah Khan appeared in three films in her career – Nishabd (2007), Ghajini (2008), and Housefull (2010).
Taran Adarsh praised her performance in Nishabd.
He said: “Newcomer Jiah Khan is supremely confident.
“Loaded with attitude and sex appeal, the newcomer carries off her part with flourish.”
In 2023, Sooraj delved into their past relationship. He revealed: “You will be shocked to know I only knew her for five months.
“It was a very short relationship. I totally knew her for maybe six months – out of that, five I was in a relationship with her.
“It’s very difficult to know what a person is going through in just a matter of five months!
“And at that age, I was a little too immature to even understand the magnitude of what she was going through.
“I informed her family that she had tried to commit suicide months before she killed herself, six months before she died.”
Meanwhile, on the work front, Zarina Wahab was last seen in the Tamil film Devara: Part One (2024).
