"Every outfit of mine whether designed or chosen needs to align"

Tara Sutaria has only been in Bollywood since 2019 but during that time she has quickly established herself as a fashion idol. No matter where she goes, people want to see what she is wearing.

Tara made her debut in Student of the Year 2 (2019) opposite Tiger Shroff. In the same year, the young actress played a mute girl in Marjaavaan with Sidharth Malhotra.

Despite continuing to shoot for other movies and being as busy as she is, Tara always looks good. From her ethnic ensembles to her western-style outfits, she never puts a foot wrong.

Whether she is out and about with her boyfriend Aadar Jain or attending a function, Tara always chooses the right outfit. Who can forget her Manish Malhotra silver sequin sari?

Wearing it to a Diwali party, the outfit really made an impression on Bollywood. But it was only the first of many more to come.

Lehengas

Why Tara Sutaria is Bollywood's new Fashion Queen - ritu

Tara Sutaria is a huge fan of lehengas and she always keeps it fresh, with amazing new variations. This multi-coloured lehenga by RI Ritu Kumar, the Niscira jamawar lehenga, is just one example.

It features an embroidered burnt orange blouse. The silk blouse has a plunging neckline and layered ruffled sleeves.

The jamawar skirt has very intricate detail, with patterns in shades of red, green, orange and yellow.

Jamawar is a beautiful fabric that is mostly used to make shawls in modern times and first came to Kashmir from Persia. The Mughal era made it very popular and the weave is very time-consuming.

It takes a lot of hard work and usually features floral and paisley motifs. Tara wears a lehenga that has a lot of volume.

Ritu Kumar says the lehenga is “a jamawar style weave brought forward on the finest of brocades.”

The statement shoulders are incredible and her dupatta is the same tangerine colour as her blouse. It has the same embellished detailing that is seen on her neckline.

She styles her hair into a middle-parted neat bun. She also has a bindi and stacked gold bangles as well as heavy earrings.

Embellished Lehengas

Why Tara Sutaria is Bollywood's new Fashion Queen - lehengas

Here are two stunning embellished lehengas that Tara has worn. The first is a blush-pink Nadia lehenga by Anita Dongre that has been intricately handwoven with gota patti embroidery.

The half-sleeved, silk blouse and skirt are both heavily adorned with silver embroidery using the gota patti and other techniques including zardozi (sewing) and cut dana (stones cut at specific angles).

Her tulle dupatta is matched with the same embroidery.

Tara’s look is finished with a statement choker and earrings from ANMOL Jewellers. For a sangeet ceremony, she attended Tara chose a white and gold lehenga by Manish Malhotra.

It is made up of a sleeveless blouse with a plunging neckline, which is heavily embroidered as is the skirt and dupatta. Manish spoke about how the lehenga is made:

“Tara Sutaria’s lehenga was crafted using soft organza fabric, and enhanced with embroidery work including foil with shimmery cut-dana (glass beads) and tiny pearls.

“The blouse was completely doused in full cut-dana embroidery.

“The dupatta was a textured fabric illustrated with gold cut-dana embroidery.”

The outfit is truly a mixture of beautiful geometric and floral shapes. She again opts for a statement choker and earrings, also by Malhotra.

Her jewellery is adorned with diamonds, pearls and jade gemstones.

Plain Lehengas

Lehengas don’t always have to be embellished and heavily embroidered to make a mark. Plain lehengas can work nicely too and Tara knows how to wear these as well as the decorated ones.

Tara loves wearing white and these two white lehengas really show how great a plain outfit can be. For movie promotions, Tara was seen in a plain, white lehenga by Gaurav Gupta.

The ensemble is made up of a strappy, bralette style blouse with a plunging neckline. The skirt has lots of volume, with a ruffle design. The uneven hemline and pleats add texture.

The lehenga has a matching white dupatta and the actress completes the look with beautiful gold chandbali earrings by Azotiique.

For Diwali celebrations, Tara chose white again, this time her lehenga is by Silai.

The strappy blouse features very delicate gold sequin work, which is replicated on the skirt’s waistband. The flowing skirt is incredible and her dupatta matches the gold sequin work.

She carries a small white clutch from Be Chic By Sneh Sandhu and wears jewellery from Farah Khan World and Minawala Jewellers. Who says plain has to be boring?

Party Style

The western-style outfits of Tara Sutaria catch the eye just as much as her ethnic ensembles. For a night out Tara wears a black mini-dress by Alessandra Rich with a turtle neck top.

The dress has full sleeves whilst the skirt is ruched. It also features studded diamante detail, which adds a wow factor. Tara finishes with a black and silver bag, with curled hair.

Her white blazer dress from designer Massimo Dutti is a true statement piece.

All the focus is on the blazer dress as Tara has chosen not to wear a shirt underneath.

This makes the deep V-neck stand out even more. She carries a white Dior handbag to match. Her jewellery is simple, with a delicate bracelet and rings by Gehna, Anmol and The Line.

Both these outfits are perfect for a night out on the town.

Casual Outfits

Dressing casually doesn’t mean not looking good and Tara Sutaria knows just how to pull these looks off.

She wears a pair of tan coloured high-waisted Tommy Hilfiger trousers, with a simple white t-shirt.

Black accessories complete the look with sunglasses from Vogue and a handbag from ASOS. Meagan Concessio, Tara’s stylist said about this look:

“What I really really love about this look is that it required zero effort, it was just a matter of pulling off basic, well-fitted trousers which were high-waisted and wide-legged. It’s easy and fuss-free.

“I have shared this look so many times and every time I get a good response because everyone can sort of relate to it.

“Whether you’re petite or curvy or big built, no matter what, you can easily ace a look like this and I think that’s how fashion should be. Everyone should get to enjoy it.”

Taking things up a notch, Tara wears a bright orange denim jacket, with a matching skirt by Koovs fashion. Underneath she wears a black cropped top, with the logo ‘Authentic’ from Forever 21.

She balances out the bold look, with a pair of white high heels by Steve Madden and a pair of cool sunglasses. These accessories make sure the bright colours are not too harsh.

Walking the Ramp

Why Tara Sutaria is Bollywood's new Fashion Queen - ramp

With Tara Sutaria’s amazing style, it’s no surprise that there are always designers asking her to walk the ramp for them.

One of her prettiest looks is a cream and gold dress from Shantanu and Nikhil.

The princess style gown is heavily embellished with gold and features a plunging neckline as well as accentuated shoulder detail.

The designers describe the iridescent piece as a “cocktail bride” look.

The dress is cinched in at the waist and the fairytale look is completed with custom made golden handcuffs. Tara has also walked the ramp for designer Punit Balana.

Her baby-pink pastel lehenga is made up of a heavily embroidered sleeveless blouse with a deep neckline. The flowing skirt also features embroidery and has knot detailing at the waist.

The lehenga has a mulmul (a thin and fine muslin) base and the standout part of this outfit has to be the intricate dori work.

Tara wears jewellery from Shree Jewellers including bangles, along with emerald and gold earrings.

Dresses

Tara Sutaria knows that sometimes only a dress is needed for an event but she still pulls out all the stops. For a TV appearance, Tara wore a stunning golden mini-dress covered in sequins.

The sparkling dress is a couture piece by Nicole & Felicia and the strapless number has an oversized bow on one side. It also has an elaborate train on the same side.

This dress speaks for itself, which is why the actress wore minimal accessories.

Her transparent strappy heels also ensure all the focus is on the dress. Tara shines as bright as the Bollywood star she is.

Her nude-toned mini dress by Manish Malhotra is also a winner. It is bedazzled, with sparkly embroidery. the top half has a batwing style with broad shoulder straps.

For accessories, Tara has chosen red dangly earrings as well as black and white striped sandals. On paper, all these colours may not work but in reality, Tara pulls off the combination perfectly.

Swimwear

She wears a necklace from Viange Vintage and a ring from Esme Crystals. Tara’s hair is styled in waves, which are perfect for her beach look. She also wears a gorgeous Dior bikini that showcases her figure.

Wearing it with unzipped jeans, her sex appeal oozes in the bikini that features the Dior Oblique motif. The top has a triangle cut, with straps that can be tied for a custom fit.

Her hair has a messy, wet look, which just adds to the feeling that Tara Sutaria has just come out of a swimming pool.

Fashion designer Arpita Mehra released a coffee table book titled, The Mirror (2021), celebrating ten years of designing.

Mirror work is a signature across her garments, hence the title of the book.

Tara Sutaria is featured in the book with this ensemble, pictured by the sea. She wears a nude-tone bralette, with a plunging neckline and embellished with mirror work. Her skirt has different pastel colours throughout.

Tara shares her thoughts on the look, expressing:

Arpita reminds me of the gypsy in all of us.”

“The outfits I have worn have always oozed a bohemian spirit that every girl has inside her.

“Her beautiful work somehow always manages to make you feel feminine, powerful and more yourself than ever.”

Tara is also seen in the Maldives in a striking zebra-print bikini by Sidway Swimwear.

The look is enhanced by an orange wrap-around skirt from Coralist Swimwear. She also wears earrings by Viange Vintage.

The Sari Look

Why Tara Sutaria is Bollywood's new Fashion Queen - saris

Tara Sutaria is also a huge fan of the sari and one of her most memorable ones is the silver sequin, which she wore to a Diwali party. The bralette style blouse really made an impression.

The Manish Malhotra ensemble features a heavily embroidered drape and a plain satin bralette. Her delicate silver layered necklace is from Goenka India and she wears rings by Renu Oberoi Jewellery.

Her colourful sari is by Punit Balana, one of Tara’s favourite designers.

The ensemble is from his Intimate Weddings by Mandana Collection and is a work of art. The sari is mostly a cherry-red colour.

It also has contrasting green and black stripes on the drape. Most saris are the traditional six-yard fabric but this one has the illusion of a draped skirt with a dupatta.

The blouse has been created using marodi and dabka (wired threads) work, with the skirt being made of satin silk fabric. The cherry pallu is crimped organza and fabric, with a cutwork belt cinching the waist.

Tara’s bangle is from Parina International and she wears red heeled sandals to match her sari. This is certainly not your conventional sari but it shows just how much fashion is evolving in India.

Tara Sutaria said:

“I love dressing up. Every outfit of mine whether designed or chosen needs to align with the occasion.”

“Fashion and style are the things, either they come to you or you pick it up over time. I have been a part of a couple of fashion shows now.

“There are a certain number of experiments people have tried and they are working in our Indian fashion scene. I think we in fashion are getting stronger.”

Tara has certainly grown from a fashion perspective, with a good eye for detail.

Black and White

Why Tara Sutaria is Bollywood's new Fashion Queen - white

Tara Sutaria wears her western-style outfits just as well as her ethnic looks and she especially likes to wear ensembles of all one colour.

Here she is wearing the ‘Structure Fluid Cape Pantsuit’ by Gaurav Gupta.

It consists of a white crop top and white pants, which are flared at the bottom and ruffled at the waist. It is completed with a cape that has an exaggerated and structured organza effect.

She keeps the jewellery to a minimum with earrings from Goenka India as well as delicate rings from Farah Khan World and Gehna Jewellers. For a party she attended, Tara chose another all-white look.

This time she wears a satin white trouser and blazer set by Farah Sanjana. Underneath, she has a pearl embroidered bralette from Shehlaa.

She also wears white sandals and jewellery from Mahesh Notandass and Gehna Jewellers.

Why Tara Sutaria is Bollywood's new Fashion Queen - black

Tara Sutaria wears all-black just as well as she wears all-white. For the Zee Cine Awards in 2020, she chose a beautiful evening gown from Marmar Halim. The strapless dress is a classic old Hollywood design.

It cinches in at the waist and then flows into a skirt that has a thigh-high slit. The gown accentuates Tara’s slim figure and she also wears black Christian Louboutin heels that are encrusted with diamonds.

In 2019, Tara was awarded Elle India’s Fresh Face of the Year and chose all-black again for the event.

She wears a black sequin blazer dress from the Michael Kors Collection.

The blazer has feathered cuffs and the sequins give it a glass-like shine. She completes the look with a pair of Sophia Webster black butterfly high heels.

Jewellery

Why Tara Sutaria is Bollywood's new Fashion Queen - earrings

Tara Sutaria is a huge fan of jewellery and accessories and tends to wear big statement pieces to really make an impression. Her earring collection is the main one to covet as seen here.

Her gold-plated peace sign earrings are from the H&M x Moschino collection. The bold earrings are so large they reach Tara’s collarbone and there is no doubt they have the x-factor.

They are ideal for her face shape and sure to catch anyone’s eye. Tara loves jhumkas and here she wears a beautiful pair of diamond-encrusted ones that have an intricate floral pattern.

The jhumkas (pendants) are by Mahesh Notandass Fine Jewellery and are large enough to draw attention without dominating her look. Tara also loves quirky styles when it comes to earrings.

Her diamond earrings are from Shobha Shringar and are shaped into a long, delicate leaf style. She also wears a large pair of silver earrings cut into a smaller leaf pattern with tiny pearls.

Accessories

Why Tara Sutaria is Bollywood's new Fashion Queen - accessories

Tara Sutaria loves accessories and not just statement earrings. Here we see the actress wearing a beautiful choker from ANMOL Jewellers for a wedding she attended.

The choker is embedded with pink quartz and Russian emeralds. With matching earrings, the colours match her blush pink lehenga perfectly.

She even wears a light pink bindi to further compliment the colours of her ensemble. Tara is a big fan of handbags, especially Dior.

In an interview with Femina, Tara was asked if she collects anything:

“All kinds of bags! I am obsessed with bags, especially mini bags from the 90s.”

“When I travel I collect vintage bags. I have a lot of vintage jewellery from the 80s and 90s.”

The Dior Caro bag she has is in beige calfskin and features a ‘CD’ twist clasp, with antique gold finishing. A Christian Dior perfume bottle inspires the seal.

The bag is perfect to wear day and night, with Tara having the same bag in white. She also wears gold earrings from Viange Vintage and rings from Mahesh Notandass Fine Jewellery and Vandals.

Tara is also seen wearing an intricate gold Matha Patti from Kishandas & Co and some cool, black sunglasses by Italian designer Kyme Eyewear.

Tara Sutaria is quickly making a name for herself in Bollywood and even more so, in the fashion stakes. Whether she is wearing ethnic outfits like a sari or a lehenga or a dress.

She can wear colours from white and black to more multicoloured palettes and pull them off effortlessly. Her party wear and casual looks are always perfect for the occasion.

Even her jewellery and accessory choices are as perfect as her ensembles. Move aside because Tara Sutaria is definitely the new fashion queen of Bollywood.
