"I got to know that someone else has been roped in."
Vikrant Massey has said that he has been unceremoniously replaced in two films.
He had been preparing for the projects and even took part in workshops.
However, he was replaced at the last minute. Vikrant revealed that he was not officially told about his dismissals, finding out through media reports.
Vikrant said that in both cases, he was replaced just days before the shoot.
He said: “It’s happened with me more than a couple of times.
“I was prepping for a film, our workshops and readings were on, the producer was treating me with good food, and I had to start shooting in two weeks.
“In the middle, I went for a 5-6 days long outdoor for some patchwork.
“On my return, I got to know that someone else has been roped in.
“In fact, it wasn’t through any communication (from the makers).
“I picked up the newspaper the next morning and read a news item that the film I was doing, now has another actor.
“It’s happened a couple of times but I think that’s a part of the job.”
Vikrant Massey will next be seen in the Netflix thriller Haseen Dillruba opposite Taapsee Pannu and Harshvardhan Rane. It is set to release on July 2, 2021.
Vikrant’s co-stars also opened up on being rejected from films.
Taapsee said she found out about her rejection through the media:
“I got to know through media. They called me, just to apologise after I had spoken out.
“But still they were hesitant to reveal the real reason behind the decision.”
Although Taapsee did not name the film, it is believed she referred to Pati Patni Aur Woh and being replaced by Bhumi Pednekar.
The producers later released a statement. Part of the statement read:
“The versatile actress Taapsee Pannu was one of the many actresses we had approached for one of the leading ladies in the film.
“However, we as producers have never made any commitment to her.”
Taapsee added: “I had given my dates. And they threw me out.
“We are all rejects.”
On his thoughts about rejection, Harshvardhan Rane said:
“I’m mostly a replacement. I think even in real life, I’m a replacement for people.”
In addition to Haseen Dillruba, Vikrant Massey will also star in a social comedy called 14 Phere. The film is set to release on Zee5 in July 2021.
