Manish Malhotra to open India Couture Week 2016

India Couture week is a five-day fashion gala, hosted by Fashion Design Council of India in Delhi.

The best Desi designers will be showcasing their work at the Taj Palace Hotel.

Manish Malhotra is set to open the fashion show on July 20, 2016.

His extravagant designs unveil a story about the intricate craftsmanship, hence he names his collection ‘The Persian Story’.

He has released a sneak peak of his collection on Twitter. Take a look!

When Manish describes his collection, he says it is ‘a reinvented Indian couture line celebrating old-world embroidery and art, craft, along with ancestral Indian trends mixed with Persian influences’.

Pakistani actor Fawad Khan says: “I set to open the collection and Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone is set to close it.”

Deepika has walked for his collection in the past. Manish speaks of her highly:

“Deepika for me is that actor who has single-mindedly worked towards being where she is today and improved and evolved over time.

“She speaks the language of today and carries any kind of garment with a coolness which is very contemporary, along with grace, elegance and world charm.”

FDCI India Couture Week 2016 Preview

Top designer Rohit Bal will be showcasing his work on July 24 in the finale.

Inspired by Russia, his garments will be luxurious in cut, while his orange flower embroidery is expected on anarkalis and jackets.

His collection will be oozing with gold, stone and emerald detailing on the clothing.

Rohit says: ““I have been able to showcase my collection that transcends all seasons and reflects my unbridled sense of aesthetics.

“The FDCI has enabled not just ace designers, but also aspiring ones to embrace the fashion industry, in reaching out to consumers worldwide and furthering the business of fashion.”

Fashion designers Tarun Tahillani and Anita Dongre will also be showcasing their collection.

Although they both have been associated with FDCI in the past, it will be there first time to participate at the event’s runway.



Sabiha is a psychology graduate. She is passionate about writing, women empowerment, Indian classical dance, performing and food! Her motto is “we need to teach our women to be somebodies instead of somebody’s”
