Manish Malhotra opened Lakmé Fashion Week on March 29, with an incredible show that kicked off the 2016 Summer/Resort season.
The renowned Bollywood designer and friend to the stars has been recently been remarketing his couture line all across India, and his specially designed ‘Elements’ collection was simply stunning.
Eager to show their support Malhotra and cheer him on, Bollywood celebrities graced the front row, featuring the likes of Nita Ambani, Isha Ambani, Natasha Poonawalla, Kareena Kapoor, Farah Khan, Dia Mirza, Sangeeta Bijlani, Bhumi Pednekar, Kanika Kapoor, Sophie Choudry and Punit Malhotra.
The runway show imitated Malhotra’s love for Indian glamour, with 70 unique outfits inspired by the four elements: Earth, Water, Air and Fire.
Malhotra also enlisted two of B-town’s hottest stars to play showstopper to the night. Jacqueline Fernandez stunned in a pastel pink gown and sheer cape that was embellished with silver beadwork.
She later tweeted: “Living my princess moment with @arjunk26 and @ManishMalhotra.”
The Bollywood princess was joined by a very dapper Arjun Kapoor. Arjun took to the runway in a midnight blue kurta and pants, and looked every inch a millennial hunk.
Malhotra’s Eastern designs fused with Western cuts and ranged from tailored ponchos and cocktail dresses with sari drapes. His off-shoulder jumpsuits had Victorian trails. All are fun pieces to model during summer wedding season.
Malhotra’s expertise of materials really shone through as he mixed together organza, tussar, and crepe with a colourful palette.
Opting for light and elegant pastels for his Summer collection, Manish’s collection saw an array of baby pink and mint green. The designer was also inspired by floral motifs to add a natural touch to his sharp, tailored cuts.
The celebrated designer also teamed up with Amol Jewellers to create some stunning accessories using uncut rubies and emeralds to complement his handcrafted belts and beaded bags.
For men, Malhotra’s collection fixed on tailored trousers and churidars in blue and ivory along with sharp jackets and kurtas.
Speaking about his beautifully intricate collection, Manish said: “ELEMENTS has been one of my most creatively gratifying experiences.
“The modern Indian bride is my muse, because there really is no point in wearing a gorgeous outfit if the bride cannot have fun in it. I wanted to showcase the expanse of possibilities that young, stylish brides- and grooms-to-be could explore for their big day.”
If Manish Malhotra’s ‘ELEMENTS’ collection is anything to go by, this year’s Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2016 promises stunning couture collection to suit any Indian man and woman’s style need.
