Geraldine Viswanathan is set to grace the screen soon in Thunderbolts*.
Marvel Studios’ star-studded action-adventure is hitting cinemas on May 2, 2025, and the Aussie breakout is stepping into the MCU with a mysterious new role that already has fans buzzing.
Directed by Jake Schreier, the film sees a ragtag team of antiheroes thrown into a deadly mission with redemption hanging in the balance.
Geraldine plays Mel, the assistant of Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ power-hungry CIA Director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
But a TV spot has left fans wondering if she is merely an assistant.

A quick shot of Geraldine shows her wearing a very familiar necklace.
The necklace has hinted that she might be Songbird, a fan-favourite from the comics with serious sonic powers and major Thunderbolts history.
If true, that would make Geraldine Viswanathan’s MCU debut even juicier.
Born in Newcastle, Australia, the 29-year-old actress’ father is of Indian Tamil descent, while her mother is from Switzerland.
Her heritage is something she has been candid about in interviews.
Geraldine once said: “There was one other Indian girl in town. We got confused for each other constantly.”
But there was no confusion about Geraldine’s talent. Trained at the Hunter School of Performing Arts, she wasted no time making waves.
She first entered the spotlight in 2018’s Blockers, stealing scenes as Kayla and grabbing headlines as the film’s breakout star.
However, it was her role in Hala that catapulted her to fame.
In the poignant coming-of-age tale, Geraldine delivered a captivating performance as a Pakistani-American teenager, earning widespread recognition and praise.
Then came Bad Education, rubbing shoulders with Hugh Jackman and Allison Janney in a sharp biopic that made critics take notice.
And she hasn’t slowed down since.
On TV, she had viewers laughing in Miracle Workers, starring alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Steve Buscemi from 2019 to 2023.
Rom-com lovers will know her from The Broken Hearts Gallery, while indie fans caught her in the quietly brilliant 7 Days, produced by the Duplass Brothers.
Thunderbolts* will be Geraldine Viswanathan’s biggest project to date, something the actress has never experienced before.
She told Empire: “The scale of that was ridiculous and terrifying in a new way.
“It was like, ‘Oh, there are 500 extras and a helicopter in this scene, so I’d better not f**k up my line’.”
On sharing the screen with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Geraldine explained:
“She is the actual queen. I call her the most perfect person in America.
“It was insane to work with her and then be watching puppy videos together.”
With Thunderbolts* looming, Geraldine Viswanathan is officially part of the Marvel machine, joining a powerhouse cast that includes Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour and Wyatt Russell.
Whether she’s just playing Val’s loyal assistant or secretly hiding a pair of wings as Songbird, one thing’s clear: Geraldine Viswanathan is poised to make an impact in the MCU.
