“He didn’t know what to do with me for the first couple of weeks.”
International star Priyanka Chopra revealed that her father banned her from wearing tight clothes during her teenage years.
The actress was extremely close to her father Ashok Chopra. Unfortunately, her father passed away in 2013.
As a tribute to her father, Priyanka got a tattoo to commemorate her father’s importance in her life.
She got a tattoo inked on her wrist which reads, ‘Daddy’s Li’l Girl.’
According to an interview with Tatler magazine, Priyanka recently opened up about her mid-teen years.
As a “16-year-old almost-woman” Priyanka Chopra returned from the United States. She said:
“I’d left as a 12-year-old flat-chested, curly-haired kid and I came back as a 16-year-old almost-woman.
During this time, Priyanka recalled her father Ashok was “shaken up by that”. She further added:
“He didn’t know what to do with me for the first couple of weeks.”
Priyanka continued to mention boys would follow her on her route back from school.
As a result of this, her father had installed bars on her windows and even banned her from wearing tight clothes.
The actress went on to mention that she had a “big clash of egos” with her father Ashok Chopra.
Previously, on her mother’s birthday on June 16, 2019, Priyanka acknowledged it was also Father’s Day.
Taking to Instagram, the actress shared a childhood picture of herself with her father. She captioned it:
“Father’s Day on moms birthday.. it’s almost like dad is here celebrating with us. Don’t need a day to miss and appreciate you dad. I love you #HappyFathersDay #daddyslilgirl for life.”
Priyanka returned to reside in the United States, where she has settled down with her husband Nick Jonas in Los Angeles.
The couple tied the knot in an extravagant wedding in Jodhpur, in 2018. Their wedding spanned over three days surrounded by their family and friends.
The Umaid Bhawan Palace was booked as the location for their nuptials including pre-wedding rituals and a western wedding.
On her wedding day, it was Priyanka’s mother gave her away, a role traditionally filled by the bride’s father.
Priyanka also recalled how she was the best of friends with her father. She remembered his words. Quoting him, she said:
“No matter what you do, good, bad, or ugly, you can come and tell me. I will help you fix it.”
“I won’t judge you, I will be always in your corner. I’ll always be on your team.”
The actress went on to mention how she was captivated with American schools. She said:
“I was fascinated by the high schools in America, where they had lockers and no uniforms and girls were wearing makeup and shaving their legs and having their eyebrows done in 8th grade.”
Priyanka Chopra’s relationship with her father is truly commendable.
Despite her father’s reservations, Priyanka continues to wear the clothes she wishes and feels comfortable in.
