“I don't think I'll bring shame to mom"

In a recent appearance on Frieha Altaf’s podcast, Amar Khan candidly opened up about her personal life.

She revealed details about her parent’s divorce and her complex relationship with her father.

Raised in Lahore, Amar disclosed that her parents separated when she was just two years old.

This led to limited interaction with her father, who resided in New York with his new family.

Coming from what she humorously referred to as a “dysfunctional” Punjabi household, Amar shared insights into her family’s dynamics and history.

Her mother, actively involved in the entertainment industry, and her grandfather, a filmmaker, underscored Amar’s roots in the world of cinema.

A poignant connection was revealed when she met Shaan Shahid. She discovered that her mother and Shaan’s mother had collaborated with her grandfather.

Her grandfather had tragically passed away at a young age due to liver cancer.

Amar acknowledged her mother’s relentless efforts to sustain the family.

Growing up in a single-parent household, Amar cherished a tight-knit bond with her maternal grandmother.

She attributed much of her personal and professional development to this influential figure.

Despite her mother’s struggles in the industry, Amar harboured a secret desire to become an actress, a passion she initially concealed.

But when Amar decided to pursue acting, her father expressed disapproval.

He wrote her a lengthy email. In the email, he asked her not to enter her mother’s profession, telling her not to “inadvertently bring shame to the family”.

Amar responded: “I don’t think I’ll bring shame to mom especially and of course not to you also.”

She revealed that they never spoke again afterwards.

Despite her mother’s advice to maintain cordiality with her father, the ice remained unbroken.

Amar Khan’s revelation shocked fans.

One person said: “Your father is not a good man.

“He should have financially taken care of you. And then he had the audacity to stop you from making a career for yourself.”

Another wrote: “I remember her mother. She used to come pick her up from school.

“She was such a nice lady I had no idea they faced so many hardships. She was always so polite and always smiled.”

One commented: “He was right in stopping you from something like this but he was totally wrong for not supporting you financially.”

Another said:

“Glad this man was not in Amar’s life. She would not be where she is now if he was.”

Amar Khan, a versatile force in the Pakistani entertainment industry, wears multiple hats as an actress, director and writer.

She stepped into the limelight with notable roles, such as Neelofur in Belapur Ki Dayan and leading characters in various series.

Her journey began in 2017 with the short film Chashm-e-Num, marking her acting debut.

She later delved into writing, earning recognition for projects like Black Wednesday. It secured ‘Best Film’ at the 60 Seconds International Film Awards.
