"Representing Indian yog in Hollywood is a blessing.”
Vidyut Jammwal is set to punch into Hollywood with his role as Dhalsim in Legendary Pictures and Capcom’s live-action adaptation of the iconic video game Street Fighter.
Set to hit theatres in October 2026, the film will be the first to release through Legendary’s new global distribution deal with Paramount Pictures.
Currently in production, the Street Fighter movie honours the pulse-pounding, button-mashing spirit of the classic video game series while updating the action for a modern audience.
Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are drawn back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament.
Behind the tournament lies a deadly conspiracy that forces fighters to confront each other and the demons of their past.
Saying the role was his destiny, Vidyut told Hindustan Times:
“It’s as if I prepared throughout my life for this role. The Almighty has aligned everything. People wrote me off after Crakk (2024), but with blessings and manifestation, anything is possible.”
He said the setback was a turning point that propelled him to international projects.
“When the film didn’t work, I went to my guruji, Dr HR Nagendra, at S-Vyasa University (Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana) in Bengaluru.
“He did extensive tests on me based on skills. He advised me to go international and spread yoga in a big way.
“Soon after, I auditioned for Street Fighter and it turned out to be for a yogic fighter! Representing Indian yog in Hollywood is a blessing.”
Vidyut describes Dhalsim as a “direct disciple of Lord Parashuram”, emphasising that the character is rooted in authentic Indian yogic science:
“He fights not for money or fame but for a cause and for humanity.”
Directed by Kitao Sakurai, Street Fighter promises to bring the arcade’s famous battles to the big screen with Hadoukens, roundhouses, and all the beloved characters.
Filming has been taking place in Australia and will continue in the United States.
Known for playing Captain Karanvir Singh Dogra in the Commando series, Street Fighter marks Vidyut Jammwal’s Hollywood debut.
He joins an ensemble cast that includes the likes of WWE star Roman Reigns, rapper 50 Cent, UFC fighter Alexander Volkanovski and comedian Eric Andre, among many others.
With Vidyut Jammwal bringing authentic yogic energy to Dhalsim, Street Fighter is shaping up to be a global event, blending martial arts, mythology, and the beloved nostalgia of the original game.
