"Another of the greats gone."
The veteran actor Talat Hussain sadly passed away on May 26, 2024.
His death is apparently due to a prolonged illness.
Announcing his death on Instagram, his daughter Tazeen Hussain wrote:
“It is with profound grief and a very heavy heart that we announce that our dearest Talat Hussain passed to his eternal abode this morning.
“Details of funeral and otherwise to follow later.”
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said:
“Talat Hussain made a place for himself in the hearts of drama and film fans around the world.
“His services for Pakistan’s radio, television and films will always be remembered.
“The void his death has created will never be filled.”
Behroze Sabzwari added: “Talat Hussain was one of the very few actors in Pakistan whom every generation knows about.
“I always received love and affection from him.
“He was my friend and was a great man.”
A close friend of Talat was Mohammad Ahmed Shah.
Talking about the late actor, Mohammad commented: “He was under treatment at the hospital for a long time.
“His daughter messaged me that he had passed away.
“He was not just an actor, but a man belonging to the field of literature.
“He was a decent man and belonged to a respectable family. He was a big personality in society.”
Since the news of his passing emerged, tributes poured in for Talat on X.
Adnan Siddiqui wrote: “Passing away of Talat Hussain sahib feels like a personal loss.
“He was there not as a co-actor but guiding force when I did my first ever play, Khwabon Ki Zanjir. Another of the greats gone.”
Mona Farooq Ahmad said: “Talat Hussain, one of the legends and a towering figure of Pakistani TV dramas, passed away.
“His distinct voice and delivery set him apart from his contemporaries.
“We grew up watching his iconic performances. May he rest in eternal peace.”
Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah added: “Feeling very sorry for the sad demise of veteran TV and stage actor Talat Hussain.
“There are no words for the legacy Talat Hussain has left for the nation.
“He has been a true inspiration for his followers.”
“Being a member of the endowment fund committee, he rendered his services in the culture department which will always be remembered.
“My condolences go to his family.”
Talat began his film career with Chirag Jalta Raha (1962). He went on to appear in several acclaimed films and television shows.
In 1982, he was awarded the Pride of Performance Award and in 2021, Talat Hussain was honoured with the Sitara-i-Imtiaz Award by the President of Pakistan.
