A US Indian man and his pregnant wife were found dead inside their New Jersey apartment, having been stabbed to death.

The bodies of Balaji Rudrawar and Aarti Rudrawar were discovered on April 7, 2021, at their apartment in Bergen County.

The matter came to light after a neighbour saw the couple’s four-year-old daughter crying on the balcony of their house.

Police responded after the neighbour looked through the front door letterbox and saw two people lying on the floor of the living room.

It was reported that officers had to force their way into the property.

Officers discovered the two bodies. The young child was also found but had not been harmed.

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella explained that both suffered from multiple stab wounds.

It is believed that Balaji stabbed his pregnant wife as she struggled to fight him off in their living room.

Balaji “also died as a result of multiple stab wounds, but his manner of death is undetermined pending the completion of an autopsy and investigation”.

Investigators said they do not believe anyone else was involved in their deaths.

Balaji’s father said Aarti was pregnant but the authorities have not said whether she was or not.

Bharat Rudrawar said: “My daughter-in-law was seven months pregnant.

“We had been to their house and were planning another trip to the US to be with them again.”

He added that his granddaughter is now living with a friend of Balaji in New Jersey.

A friend of the couple has created a GoFundMe page to raise money for their daughter. The page has raised more than $118,000.

Gobindsingh Nihalani has organised the fundraiser and said that the Rudrawars were “a couple of few words but many smiles”.

The authorities have said that the bodies will be sent to India but it will take at least eight days to reach the country after all the necessary formalities.

Bharat added: “The local police there informed me of the tragedy on Thursday.

“There is no clarity yet on the cause of the death. The US police said they will share the findings of the autopsy report.

“I am not aware of any possible motive. They were a happy family and had lovely neighbours.”

The couple moved to the United States in August 2015 after getting married in December 2014.

Balaji had worked for the Indian IT company Larsen & Toubro while his wife was a homemaker.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the North Arlington Police Department are continuing to investigate the deaths.
