An Indian man who said he found his three family members dead at their home has now been arrested for their murder.
The triple murder occurred in the Neb Sarai area of Delhi.
On December 4, 2024, police received a distress call about injuries to three members of the same family.
Officers turned up at the house where the caller Arjun said he found his parents and sister dead after returning from a morning walk at 5:30 am.
Rajesh Kumar, his wife Komal and their daughter Kavita were found in their bedrooms with stab wounds.
Police launched an investigation, however, there was no sign of a robbery.
Arjun was also questioned and police soon became suspicious as inconsistencies emerged.
He eventually confessed to murdering his family in an act fuelled by resentment.
According to police, Arjun had a strained relationship with his parents and was jealous of his sister.
Joint Commissioner of Police SK Jain said:
“We took him (Arjun) in custody and interrogated where he revealed that he committed the crime as he did not have good relations with his parents.
“He was also upset as his parents used to like his sister more than him.”
Despite being a boxer and Delhi state silver medallist, Arjun always felt inferior to his sister.
Kavita excelled academically and earned her parents’ praise. In contrast, Arjun struggled in his studies, leading to a growing sense of neglect and frustration over the years.
During his confession, Arjun said his parents favoured Kavita.
He was often scolded for his academic shortcomings and daily tasks, further fuelling his anger.
The turning point came after two incidents.
The first occurred when Arjun’s father publicly scolded and physically disciplined him in front of others, leaving him humiliated.
He became enraged when he found out his father planned to transfer property to Kavita.
On his parent’s wedding anniversary, Arjun woke up early, took a knife and slit his sister’s throat.
He went upstairs and found his father sleeping. His mother was inside the bathroom.
Arjun slit his father’s throat. When his mother came out of the bathroom, he smothered her and repeatedly stabbed her.
The 20-year-old then left the house for his usual morning walk to create an alibi.
Following Arjun’s arrest, he remains detained and further investigation into the matter is underway.
