Muna Pandey, who lived alone, had an issue with a stalker
A 21-year-old student was shot dead at her apartment in Texas and court documents state that the suspect may have prowled ‘Sugar Daddy’ websites in the past.
During a traffic stop, Bobby Singh Shah was arrested for the murder of Nepalese national Muna Pandey.
Muna was found shot dead in her Houston apartment.
Shah was arrested after police released a surveillance image of him leaving Muna’s apartment on August 24, 2024, and received several tip-offs.
According to court documents, a woman told police she instantly recognised Shah as a man she met through a ‘Sugar Daddy’ website 12 years ago.
Muna Pandey, who lived alone, had an issue with a stalker in 2023.
This led her to install a camera outside her front door.
The student’s body was found on August 26 with multiple gunshot wounds. This included an execution-style wound in the back of the head.
Police say footage from the night of the murder shows the same man with a gun as Muna is seen holding several items including her black purse.
It is alleged that the man repeatedly told Muna to open her apartment door.
Muna reportedly asked: “What are you going to do?”
The man then racked the slide of his gun, pushed Muna inside and locked the door behind them.
After receiving a call from an anonymous male.
Police believe Muna knew her killer because they found no signs of forced entry or a botched robbery.
They also think her attacker may have her mobile phone, which has not been found.
Muna’s friends told police her phone did not register a location after August 24.
She was taking classes at Houston Community College and worked at a local phone store.
In a post on Facebook, Muna’s former roommate Orusha Niraula wrote:
“We demand justice for Muna Pandey, my dear friend and former roommate, who was tragically taken from us.
“She was shot in her own home in Houston… the pain of losing her in such a violent way is unbearable.”
Orusha added that Muna had been “like a sister to [her]” and was always “full of life, kindness, and joy”.
“Her bubbly personality and infectious laughter made every moment brighter.”
Muna is the second college student to be found murdered in Houston this week.
Andrea Rodriguez Avila, a junior at Rice University, was found dead inside her dorm room alongside her boyfriend barely an hour before. Police said Andrea was the victim of a murder-suicide.
