What have the Desi bakers of the latest series been up to?
On November 4, 2025, the sixteenth series of The Great British Bake Off reached an end.
The final episode of Channel 4’s beloved baking competition saw Jasmine Mitchell win the grand prize.
Appearing in the show aged 23, Jasmine was the youngest baker of the 2025 series.
She had done exceedingly well in the competition, winning Star Baker five times.
Paul Hollywood described her as one of the best contestants the show had “in a while”.
However, while Jasmine took home the final win, what have the Desi bakers of the latest series been up to?
The Great British Bake Off 2025 contained two South Asian bakers – Hassan Islam and Nadia Mercuri.
Hassan is a 30-year-old analytical research and development scientist.
Meanwhile, 41-year-old Nadia is a hairdresser from Liverpool.
Hassan was the first baker to leave the show, while Nadia departed the tent in the fifth week.
The final episode’s ending credits revealed that Hassan honed his baking skills by making a centrepiece cake for his mother’s birthday.
Nadia celebrated her daughter Rosa-Bella’s first Holy Communion.
She also welcomed a “very special guest” into her salon in the form of fellow contestant Carol ‘Pui Man’ Li.
Discussing his takeaway from being in The Great British Bake Off, Hassan previously said:
“I guess the biggest takeaway is that I actually got onto the show.
“For me, I’m usually always interested in how things work, so being part of Bake Off gave me a big understanding and insight into TV work.
“How things all work and the effort that goes into developing a TV show like this, with all the secrecy and background work involved.
“I feel my skills in recipe development, flavour combos, and ideas and creating bakes that fit a specific brief have drastically improved since being on Bake Off.
“There are a lot of ideas I don’t think I would have ever done, unless I was on Bake Off and asked to create these bakes.”
“The Great British Bake Off is extremely challenging and can have a lot of ups and downs.”
“But it’s a great way to push yourself out of your comfort zone, meet some amazing, talented individuals, and be part of a unique opportunity.”
Meanwhile, Nadia reflected: “I’ve learned so much and challenged myself – going into Bake Off will be the best thing I’ve ever done!
“I would absolutely encourage other home bakers to apply for the next series.”
While the 2025 season of The Great British Bake Off may now be over, potential star bakers can apply for the seventeenth series here.
