"I just believe in the process."
Within the realm of Indian music, Sudhir Yaduvanshi is a fresh talent who glistens with skill and originality.
He has sung plenty of brilliant songs, including the memorable number ‘Kaawaa Kaawaa‘ from Kill (2024).
The film was a huge blockbuster when it was released.
Sudhir’s voice undeniably contributed to that.
The singer has also sung for renowned actors including Akshay Kumar and harbours dreams to widen his repertoire of work.
He is certainly brimming with potential and his voice is a testament to that.
In our exclusive chat, Sudhir Yadhuvanshi discusses his career so far and his advice for budding musicians.
Can you describe how you got into playback singing?
It has been a long journey. I started with backing vocals and gradually moved on to performing alaaps for the background scores of the web series.
Over time, I began receiving lead parts, and with persistent hard work and the right focus.
I was eventually given the opportunity to perform as a playback singer. I am truly grateful for this experience.
What types of songs do you feel suit you best?
I enjoy listening to all kinds of music, especially Indian folk.
However, when I began singing, I was particularly influenced by some powerful singers.
Their music drew me towards performing more dynamic and impactful genres.
These include motivational songs, patriotic anthems, title tracks, historical ballads, cult classics, spiritual hymns, and even rebellious tunes.
Can you tell us about the process of recording ‘Kaawaa Kaawaa’? Has the song achieved what you wanted it to?
Shashwat Sachdev, the composer of the song ‘Kaawaa Kaawaa” from Kill, is one of my favourite music directors.
I had the opportunity to meet him, and when he heard my voice, he really liked it and mentioned that we would work together soon.
However, I didn’t expect it to happen as quickly as it did. One night, while I was playing cricket, I suddenly received a call from him.
I immediately left the game and headed to the studio.
Upon arriving, he gave me a brief about the song before I even heard it, saying that it was made specifically for me and that he was confident I would do it justice.
The first few minutes of the recording session were challenging, but everything fell into place afterwards, and the track turned out great. Everyone was very pleased with the result.
I try not to have high expectations from anything. My job is to perform each song with complete honesty and ensure it turns out well.
Whether it becomes successful or not is up to fate. I just believe in the process. Fortunately, the movie and the song are doing really well in the market.
Which actors have you enjoyed providing playback for and are there any whom you would particularly like to sing for?
My playback singing debut for Akshay Kumar sir with the song, ‘Shambhu‘ was a significant milestone for me.
While it’s always a wonderful experience to sing for any lead actor, I have a sincere desire to do playback for Vicky Kaushal someday.
Which singers and musicians have inspired you in your journey and why?
I am greatly inspired by voices with a traditional, earthy texture, like those of Kailash Kher sir and Sukhwinder Singh sir, as well as the type of songs they sing in Bollywood.
This combination resonates with me because I always like to stay connected to my roots in some way.
Can you describe the feelings that live performance gives you? How does it differ from singing in a studio?
Since I started my career with live shows before transitioning to recording, the love and energy from the audience from day one to now is something that can’t be compared to anything else.
It’s a truly unique feeling. Studio recording is very different from performing live because, in the studio, you create, learn, and build things, while on stage, you get to witness the results of that work.
Can you tell us anything about your future work?
Many projects have already been completed, and several are currently underway.
In the near future, two songs are set to be released, although I can’t share too many details at the moment.
However, one of the songs is dedicated to Ganpati Bappa.
Sudhir Yaduvanshi is an example of hard work amalgamating with talent to create everlasting output.
Divulging advice to budding musicians, he says:
“Believe in the process and in yourself, maintaining the right energy and focus. Don’t rush things.”
This attitude is what has helped him achieve his dreams.
He is surely set to go far in his chosen field.
If you’re an Indian music aficionado, keep an eye out for Sudhir Yaduvanshi.
