"That was the case of the relationship"
Former actress Somy Ali revealed why she and Salman Khan broke up.
The pair were in a relationship for several years during the 1990s.
However, they split up and Somy left for the United States shortly after.
Somy explained: “I learned a lot from his parents and household. I also learned from Salman.
“Ultimately, in any relationship, if you are not happy, it’s better to part ways.
“That was the case of the relationship between Salman and me. I decided to go back to America.”
Somy went on to say that she learnt a lot from Salman’s parents.
She elaborated: “What I learned from his parents is so phenomenal. They had an open house. Every day people would come and go. They would be loving and feeding them. The door was never locked.
“Another pivotal lesson I learned is that we are all the same.
“They did not differentiate in religion at all. They never saw any difference in religion.
“It is very important to learn from them.”
She called Salman “generous”, praising him for his love towards animals. Somy also commended him for the philanthropic work that he is doing through his Being Human foundation.
Somy Ali revealed that she began dating Salman when she was just 17.
She became attracted to him after watching him in Maine Pyaar Kiya. Somy travelled to India as a result.
After Somy expressed her feelings for him, they got into a relationship.
Somy and Salman’s relationship has had a lot of publicity.
She previously revealed that she has not spoken to Salman in five years and that her decision has been a healthy one.
In July 2021, Somy had said:
“I have not spoken to Salman in five years. I think it is healthy to move on.
“I have moved on and he has moved on too. I don’t know how many girlfriends he has had since I left in December 1999.
“I wish him all the best. I know his NGO is doing brilliant work and I am proud of his Being Human Foundation.
“Psychologically, it is healthier for me to not be in touch with him.”
“It is good to know he is in a good place and he’s happy, and that is all I care about.”
At the time, Somy also said Salman cheated on her.
Somy added: “We have moved on. It’s been 20 years since I broke up with him.
“He cheated on me and I broke up with him and left. It’s as simple as that.”
Somy and Salman worked together on a film that was later shelved.
