"But now, the entire song is completely re-dubbed."

Shaan shared his thoughts on reality singing shows, claiming they rely on re-recorded performances instead of live singing.

The singer has judged The Voice India and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs.

In an interview with Vickey Lalwani, he claimed the performances on these shows are no longer authentic.

Shaan said: “I am not just told but I am convinced and I know for a fact that they are re-dubbing the songs.

“In reality shows, at least until 2018 when I was involved, what you heard was pretty much what it was. They used to tweak the tuning a bit.

“But now, the entire song is completely re-dubbed.

“So when you hear it, obviously, you’re blown away, like ‘Wow!’ Your expectations go sky-high.

“But when you actually call them to sing something for you, you realise they’re a major disappointment.

“What they sing there happens only once, but then they take that audio to the studio and make them sing again.

“This has been going on for a few years now.

“Then it’s also fixed, corrected. So when an audience is listening, you level anything out which is out of tune.

“How’s that possible?

“To some extent, they are singing, some are singing better, some not as well, and that’s what’s getting the reactions. I had a few fallouts when these things were being forced initially.”

Shaan also shared that the judges also give their feedback whilst keeping in mind the episode’s final edit.

He argued that the TRPs of such shows were much better when the content was “kept real”.

Shaan’s comments have raised concerns about how authentic these reality shows are.

They also came a few days after a photo from the Indian Idol 15 set went viral.

The photo showed Hema Malini holding several sheets of paper which turned out to be a script.

Eagle-eyed viewers noticed that the lines in the script were the exact ones spoken by Hema during the episode.

The viral photo sparked a mixed response.

Some stated that reality shows require a lot of planning so a script is necessary. However, others called out such shows for their “fakery”.
