"Once a spy, always a spy! Mission starts soon!"
Spy-thriller Sardar continues its blockbuster run in theatres and in just its second week, it has grossed almost Rs. 100 Crore (£10 million) worldwide.
The film, which stars Tamil star Karthi, was released on October 21, 2022.
Karthi takes on a dual role, playing ex-RAW field operative Agent Chandra Bose alias Sardar and Bose’s son Inspector Vijay Prakash.
It received a thunderous response from the critics as well as the public who have called it a “blockbuster Diwali release”.
On Monday, October 31, 2022, entertainment trade analyst Ramesh Bala took to his Twitter account and stated that the film has grossed Rs. 85 Crore (£8.9 million) worldwide.
According to industry insiders, the number of screenings in the second week increased and is continuing to rise.
It is predicted to reach 500, up from 380 in the first week.
The movie made over Rs. 1.9 Crore (£200,000) on day eight, bringing the total domestic take to approximately Rs. 40 Crore (£4.2 million).
With earnings of over Rs. 30 Crore (£3 million) in just eight days, Sardar has been a huge success in Tamil Nadu.
Following the film’s success, Karthi and director PS Mithran announced Sardar 2.
The filmmakers unveiled the announcement teaser for the sequel on Twitter and it was captioned:

The teaser begins with a top official onboarding Karthi’s Vijay Prakash into his spy agency.
Vijay is informed that he has been fired from the police department for disrupting a huge operation of the government and is branded the “son of a traitor”.
He has to bear the shame and uproot his whole life for the sake of his job. The teaser ends abruptly as Vijay’s handler mulls over his code name.
As well as Karthi, Sardar also stars Raashii Khanna, Rajisha Vijayan, Laila and Munishkanth.
The film also saw Chunky Panday make his Tamil film debut.
Sardar is Karthi’s third theatrical release of 2022, with an added voiceover role in Kamal Haasan’s Vikram.
The actor was previously seen in the film Viruman, which hit the theatres in August 2022 and became one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of the year.
He was recently seen in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: I, portraying Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan.
The historical epic has been a massive success, grossing over Rs. 450 Crore (£47 million) at the box office.
The film also starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi and Trisha, among others.
