She has a seemingly quiet life but it is disrupted

Nina Wadia has swapped EastEnders for Midsomer Murders and she looks completely different in her new role.

The actress is best known for playing Zainab Masood from 2007 to 2013.

But Nina’s latest role sees her swap the bustling Albert Square market for a rural setting.

In Midsomer Murders, she will play Medora Salt, a local pub owner who is married to Randall Salt.

She has a seemingly quiet life but it is disrupted when someone in the village is murdered.

A synopsis for the ITV show reads:

“The village of Blacktrees-on-Marsh not only sits in the very heart of Midsomer, but extraordinarily enough, it was once also listed on secret Cold War documents that detailed the places in England that Russia would target in the event of nuclear war.

“While the listing is more than likely a myth or a joke that someone cracked in The Huntsman’s Horn, there are still some who are convinced of its truth… even plagued by it.”

It is understood that Nina’s role in the show will be a minor one.

The 23rd series of Midsomer Murders starts on April 14, 2024, on ITV1.

Meanwhile, Nina Wadia has hinted at a potential return to EastEnders.

She revealed: “I didn’t suit being in the same character for that long and I was finding myself climbing the walls with just playing Zainab.

“They were kind to me on the show in that they didn’t kill her off and I’m sure at one point I will return.”

Nina Wadia also said that despite her absence of over 10 years, she is still missed by viewers:

“What fascinates me is that people still say, ‘When are you going back in?’ I left over a decade ago!”

“Honestly, it was one of my most favourite jobs to have done.

“I met some incredible actors and I’m still friends with a lot of them. I do miss it. I would never say never!

“I’m always there for anyone. Nitin (Ganatra) is lovely and of course we would [both go back]. We had a ball when we were on it.

“I went back into comedy after Zainab’s exit, things got quite heavy for her.

“I’ve been away long enough now that if I did go back, I’d bring back the humour and that’s what I’d love to do.”
