"He must take a graceful retirement."

Salman Khan’s dad, Salim Khan, has said that he thinks Amitabh Bachchan should retire.

Both actors worked together on several films, including Zanjeer (1973), which also starred Jaya Bachchan.

However, Khan now believes that it’s time for his fellow veteran actor to stop starring in films for good.

He said: “Amitabh Bachchan should retire now.

“He has achieved all that he had to in this life.

“One should keep a few years of life for oneself as well. Amitabh Bachchan has played a brilliant innings professionally.

“He has done good work so he must free himself from the race. He must take a graceful retirement.”

Salim Khan himself stopped acting in movies after appearing in Wafadar (1977). Afterwards, he turned to screenwriting.

He eventually became one half of a highly successful scriptwriting team with Javed Akhtar, referred to as Salim-Javed.

The pair had a close professional relationship with Bachchan and were instrumental in creating his ‘angry young man’ persona.

Yet Khan added: “Amitabh Bachchan was the hero who could play an angry young man, he still is.

“However, there are no stories for an actor like Amitabh now.”

“Our films have improved technically, the music and action have improved but we do not have good scripts.”

Salim-Javed eventually parted ways professionally, each writing on their own. However, Khan retired soon afterwards.

It comes as Bachchan celebrated his 79th birthday on Monday, October 11, 2021, and thanked those who wished him.

He wrote on his blog: “It is impossible to measure the love and affection from the [extended family] and the well-wishers on the day of the 11th October, and impossible too to gauge the repay of this huge debt of gratitude…

“I see all and feel all and read them well… and it shall not be possible to respond to them individually, so I give my attention to this medium and say to all…

“The gracious indebtedness of all that you do for me… humbled and filled with the will of the love of all…”

The actor last featured in mystery thriller Chehre (2021) alongside Rhea Chakraborty, Emraan Hashmi and Krystle D’Souza.

He is currently hosting popular gameshow Kaun Banega Crorepati.

Amitabh Bachchan also has a number of upcoming projects in 2021 and 2022, including sports drama Jhund and Brahmastra, which also stars Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor.
