"The most noble thing should be done.”

Bollywood star Salman Khan has spoken out on the ongoing Farmers’ Protest taking place in India.

The protest, which has been going on since November 2020, is now an international affair.

Salman Khan had been attending the launch event for a music reality show, Indian Pro Music League, in Mumbai when he was asked about the protest.

The event took place on Thursday, February 4, 2021.

Before the launch event, Khan had not shared his thoughts on the protest publicly.

The reality host responded to questions from journalists about the ongoing protests, saying “the right thing should be done”.

Salman Khan said: “The right thing should be done. The most correct thing should be done.

“The most noble thing should be done.”

Although brief, Salman Khan is the first Khan to speak out on the protest. Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan have been quiet with their opinions on the subject.

Since November 2020, thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh have been protesting at Delhi’s borders to rollback three new farming laws.

Farmers are protesting for the rejection of these laws, as they believe they will leave them at the mercy of large corporate companies.

The protest taking place in India has been getting a lot of international attention.

Salman Khan’s response follows that of renowned pop singer Rihanna, who has recently taken to Twitter in support of the protest, as well as climate activist Greta Thunberg.

On Thursday, February 4, 2021, Greta Thunberg tweeted:

“I still #StandWithFarmers and support their peaceful protest. No amount of hate, threats or violations of human rights will ever change that. #FarmersProtest”

In a tweet on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, Rihanna simply asked:

“Why aren’t we talking about this?! #FarmersProtest”

Soon after Rihanna’s tweet, several Bollywood celebrities also began to share their views on social media, including the likes of Akshay Kumar.

The actor took to Twitter to reiterate how significant farmers are to India.

Kumar tweeted:

“Farmers constitute an extremely important part of our country. And the efforts being undertaken to resolve their issues are evident.

“Let’s support an amicable resolution, rather than paying attention to anyone creating differences #IndiaTogether #IndiaAgainstPropaganda”

Other celebrities to speak out on the Farmers’ Protest alongside Salman Khan are Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu, former adult film star Mia Khalifa, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Louise is an English and Writing graduate with a passion for travel, skiing and playing the piano. She also has a personal blog which she updates regularly. Her motto is "Be the change you wish to see in the world."
